Feeling a bit despondent after that 17:54 - Dec 8 with 1418 viewsDubtractor

We did enough to get a result, and got so close to seeing it through, regardless of all the various stats/xg etc. We simply can't afford to throw games away like that, and it was a mixture of mistakes and naivety that undid us.

Honestly don't see how we get enough points to stay up as it stands - we're just so consistently on the wrong side of fine margins. Can't fault the effort at all, but the jump up seems just a bit too great for us. Maybe with a bit more luck with injuries we'd be in with a chance, our bench simply isn't a premier league quality bench at the moment though.

Ho hum.

You can argue today that B'mouth had the better chances.

We rode our luck and got our noses in front.

But for a poor decision from our keeper, for me, that's 3pts in the bag today.

It's worse given our position. Again, positives today. Delighted for Chappers to nab a goal, Burgess, again, was excellent - no fault of his for the goal. We could have had a couple of chances to extend our lead.

As they say, when you are down, things don't go your way - Muric's decision to come out proved more costly than a goal.

Nail on head there I think isn't it? We try, we really try, but we struggle to do. As you say injuries don't help as a team like us needs our best players fit and available all the time just to stand a chance but we also yet again failed to sign a striker in the summer when we needed one.

Hard to blame anyone really as finishing 17th this season would be a bigger achievement than the promotions of the last 2 seasons given our squad relative to everyone else's. I said I few weeks ago we could well be this season's Luton - 'competitive' in a lot of games, play well enough to gain plenty of plaudits but ultimately come up a bit short when all is said and done. Tough not be reaffirmed in that opinion after today.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

I don't actually have an issue with that, if it went that way.

I am quite happy for KM to stay true to our way of playing. He's only every tweaked and adjusted, he's only ever tried to improve the squad. It's an element I like and, as an Ipswich fan that identifies with (and seen) a long history, sits well with me.

I would worry if he suddenly went against everything that has served him/ us well since he came in - in a desperate attempt to stay up.

I maybe in the minority but I'd rather us try and stay up playing 'our way' or a tweaked version of it.

We knew it would be tough, it is tough. Whether today played out in the Prem of L1 - it hurts, it's a confidence killer and it's horrible.

We didn’t do enough to win, we played well in the first half, but it wasn’t enough to win.
We again didn’t manager the 90mins well enough.
Our subs were weak/late in coming.

We probably will go down.

I think you misunderstand my point. I'm not saying we deserved to win (the stats suggest otherwise), but that we did enough to be able to, and got very close before it all went horribly wrong.

Ah sorry, yes I get your point now.

That whole bench must have watched him come out of his goal thinking ‘ffs’

It was never going to be easy, 4th bottom has always been our target.
I was concerned at the start of the season a lot fans weren't realistic. That concern only grew after the Spurs win and fans talked about heading up the table towards midtable, it was never going to happen. The PL has moved on so far, even over the last 5 seasons. The days of a promoted team pushing for a top 6 spot (prob even top 10) is long, long gone.

Forest struggled in their first season back, but they hung in and avoided relegation. Now, with 3 seasons of PL cash, they are pushing towards top 6

Yes we need a home win, and today was difficult to take, but if we as fans remain realistic with our expectations and support the team I'm still confident we'll finish in that 4th bottom position.

Forest spent £200 million + and scraped 17th. People laughed at them but they were probably right. A whole new team is needed to survive in the Prem if you are a non-parachute team

Yeah I widely agree here.

We’re losing out on the fine margins.

KM has got us super competitive but just lack that spark off the bench which has been his trademark. He’s taken us up another notch this season but think we’ll fall short in the end.
