Man City trying to imitate Delap’s goal at Brentford 20:58 - Jan 14 with 2280 viewsSteve_M

Good goal but annoying as Brentford had a goal (correctly);ruled out for offside 30 seconds earlier.

De Bruyne is the best midfielder the premier league has seen and I won't hear otherwise.

Brilliant night all round. Mbeumo had a great chance for 3-2 as well.

Yeah, but you thought Alan 'Rip the division up' Judge was a good midfielder.

Pau Scholes was better than all of those by miles. And criminally misused by a succession of England managers.

I think so. It's always a bit silly comparing these players (yeah I know I started it), because they're from different eras and they're playing the game a different way.

But if you're talking about genuine footballing quality, De Bruyne's ability to but the ball on a plate for strikers and score brilliant goals himself consistently for 10 years is unrivaled, in my opinion. He's just classy.

Lampard and especially Gerrard offered other things of course, but for me as a midfielder your prime job is to create and KDB does that as good or better than anyone that's gone before him.

You are odd, but at least you're consistent.

Enjoy the game Thursday if you're there.

I'm not odd, Judge was rubbish. He was a classic banter era purchase of 'yeah, but he was good once, before he got injured' that people liked to to get behind because the alternative was facing up to the fact that we were apparently in a death spiral.

Yeah, it's really annoying when footballers put in effort and football fans get behind it. What a great reason to repeat the same line season on season as some kind of vague mocking attempt.

Both of you are partially correct here. Judge did always seem to give his all, but he was clearly well past his best when we had him in the team. You're correct - as in - we should all get behind them and show our support when they are playing for us. BUT...after they have moved on, there is nothing wrong with reflecting back and stating that a player was just not up to the standard we required - at that point. Although, I still think that all-out abuse for some just doing their job has no place in the world.

Digging out and abusing players that are currently playing for us, has no meaningful use and the only thing it's likely to do is pile more, unneeded pressure on said player. Whilst a player is still with us there's always a chance they can turn it around and become an important member of the team. Conversely though, once the player has left, for me, it's fair game to point out they were simply not good enough. At that point, they are gone and done for us, and whatever is said is not going to have any effect on their career with us.
