Hindsight and all that but just not sure today was the game to change the back line completely. Probably wouldn't have made a huge amount of difference. Glad Axel is back.

I thought we played well for the first 30. Really good heart and concentration and played some good football on counter. They are just a world class side and once you're a few goals down there aren't many sides that can deal with it. I thought we were brave and tried to do the right things. Morsy good, Philogene looks very exciting, Delap his usual self, Johnson very good i thought. Axel is back. Reflected in crowd at end. KM and players seemed to appreciate it. Good energy. We can stay up. Onwards!

I think McKenna needs to try and settle on a backline now. Muric or Walton? Godfrey or Woolfenden? Burgess or Greaves? Even Burns or Johnson? Chopping and changing players at the back is going to make them unsettled. Today was Godfrey's debut, O'Shea played a position he hasn't done so far for us, and had Burgess to his left (again) rather than Woolfenden but in a three rather than a two. Additionally, our right side was made up of a debutant and someone who moves in and out of the line up dependent on the opposition. Last year you could also name practically our entire starting line up for each game, injuries permitting. Admittedly injuries have paid a part whereas, Hirst aside, we were pretty lucky with them last season.

Yeah I agree. I think he's trying to give everyone game time and reward training/performances but we need some continuity now. Thought Johnson and Godfrey did fairly well on the right. For my money Burg and O'Shea are our best defenders. But Greaves and Woolfy both excellent players. It's not easy to settle on a backline! [Post edited 19 Jan 19:58]

Johnson and Godfrey did fairly well??? Did you see where the majority of the goals came from?

Yeah, have to sadly say this - Johnson and Godfrey were torn a new one today. That doesn't mean they won't work well together in the future.

Yes! Johnson did a really good job of getting straight onto Doku and defended well in that opening half hour. The two goals from that side came because of the quality of City's play. Johnson had to be inside and couldn't then get out to Doku as you'd like. He did manage it about 15 times before but they cut you apart with their movement and take your legs away! No shame in it. Didn't think it was terrible blunders on our part, just world class players. If you're a yard short you get punished. Godfrey has a nice turn of pace on him and a good touch. Slightly unsure when he gets into the opposition final third but that can be improved.

thought Godfrey was fine but Johnson simply runs with his man, usually gets run past and 90% of the time never ever puts in a challenge and therefore passes his man onto Godfrey, hasten to say I've been less than impressed with him this season.

Can understand that view even if I don't totally agree with it. He's definitely been inconsistent.

You could have had a brick wall of a defence out there today and Man City would have punched a hole through it. Keep some perspective as to the true level of the opposition we've just played against!

Not sure where Godfrey plays if Axels back though

My thoughts exactly. First 30 we seemed much more up for it than against Brighton, prob because they realised they couldn’t afford another slow start like that. Then all of a sudden bang, bang, 0-2 and we’ve a mountain to climb. Guess that’s world class teams for you. Thought Godfrey did well and offers more offensively than axel. Johnson was getting through a lot of work. And Morsy was showing why we missed him on thurs. Albeit Cajuste has looked miles off it last two for me. Dont think he had a touch for the first 10-15. And can’t help think Muric might’ve saved the 3rd but equally he might’ve had a mad moment and cost us a goal. Still can’t work out which one should be starting as neither is perfect. Anyway the key now is how we respond… can’t afford too many of those. Someone told me on the train that cunha is off to arsenal. 🤞🏼 to that. Keep the faith. COYB.

Blimey - Cunha to Arsenal would really help... Hope that happens! Good points re keepers. Agree about Cajuste too - one of his less effective games for us and noticeable because he's generally been excellent. Morsy is so important to us. Keep the faith. Long way to go yet. We will stay up.

Might be wishful thinking as I thought cunha was signing a new contract. Would be utter madness on their part to sell. Nothing would surprise with him/wolves though, so you never know.
