In some ways Putin is at least being driven by an ideology. Trump just treats everything as a property development transaction aligned to his commercial ‘art of the deal’ methods… he has no interest in the humanitarian aspects of the Ukraine conflict, he’s just thinking what financial wins can he show the MAGA base, and what he can carve out for himself.
The mists are clearing on the DOGE initiative and it’s a car crash. Cost of living hasn’t gone down in the US. The tariffs drive looks sketchy. So he needs some red meat for his base. A base who’ve been Russian botted up to their eyeballs. With Tucker Carlson as ring leader.
Putin is an ex KGB agent who spent years spying on Western embassies and missions in St Petersburg. Yes he’s racked up huge wealth. But his goal is a return to a more powerful mother Russia. He wrote a historically inaccurate essay about Ukraine that all Russian military personnel had to read… it’s essentially a justification for ALL of Ukraine to be back in Russia. That’s his driver. It was never just about the Donbass. And never about NATO, well it is, but not in the way he portrays. |  |

The one thing Trump is good at is creating division and then claiming it’s the others that started it. Classic fascist. He has no empathy for anyone other than himself. Every single thing he does, on behalf of the American people is for his own ends. One of the richest men in the world, surrounded by his boot licking oligarchs , ( like Putin), yet millions of people think he ‘says it how it is, and he is one of us’.

That’s the main reason Putin shovelled people into the area to justify his actions (as did Hitler into the Sudetenland).
