Is there too much football on tele these days? 12:20 - Aug 9 with 318 viewsMatt_Netherlands

I know there’s a lot of fanfare around the opening day so it’ll feel like it’s everywhere, m but there’s a crazy amount of games on TV this season. More than 1,200 live PL and EFL games in Sky alone this season.

Pros:
Broadens the chance to watch teams you wouldn't normally watch
A chance to avoid whatever dross the other half wants to have on
Helps see games that people can’t get tickets for / travel for
Revenue and money for clubs

Cons:
More games with ridiculous kick off times
Gets a bit saturated where games lose the ‘special’ feeling of being on live TV
Helps Sky justify their ridiculous prices

For me it’s a yes. There used to be a real special buzz about having a game on tele…. Now it feels like football is on more than the News!

Almost certainly. Altho the fact I can get up at 6:30am and watch Coventry v Hull makes me happy.

I don't know why people care with the exception of when it's their club and times are being moved. Who cares if Southampton vs Wrexham is on at 12.30? It's nice to have the option to watch.

Truly impaired.

I do feel that like horse racing football is getting diluted too much. For those that say you have the choice well yes you do, but you are paying a lot of the time for stuff you don't want to see and even if you are a follower of a certain team you need to subscribe to three or four different outlets to see all their games where in the past you just had Sky and despite them no longer having the monopoly the price keeps going up.

It's nuts, isn't it?

Every EFL team is guaranteed to be on at least TWENTY times this season. And when you think we're considered to be one of the bigger teams, it could easily be more. There is the realistic prospect of being able to see more than half our games on television.

Then of course there's every single EFL Cup and Trophy game.

Meanwhile, in the Prem, unless the game is at 3pm on a Saturday, you'll be able to see it on Sky or TNT.

Speaking as someone who remember the excitement around when the FA Cup match against Man Utd in 1988 was on (Us? On the TV? LIVE?!) it really is a change.

Meanwhile, on the game I am watching, Wrexham have scored, so we're not top anymore. Sack the board and let Marcus Evans buy us back for £2.47 and a pickled egg.
