Would you bring back Hladky for a season long loan? 18:46 - Aug 31 with 1600 viewsitfcserbia

Genuine question.

Seeing how neither Walton nor Palmer are assured enough in starting our possession or just following the play really. Palmer takes so long on the ball and then just passes it to nearest player to get out of his personal trouble, while Hladky used to invite oppo players intentionally to create space. Also, remember how he used to stay high up? Will never forget his one-touch cushion to Morsey away at Middlesbrough.

Trouble with signing a keeper is if they come in and don't work out we then have to go back to one of the keepers we would have publicly said were not good enough.

I think we're better off going with Palmer and Walton until Jan. Palmer is decent and seemed to be moving the ball a little quicker against Derby. Once we click he should easily be good enough as part of the overall team.

Truly impaired.

I thought Palmer was super slow against Derby. And quite a few times handed a hot potato to others, mostly Greaves.

No.

I agree that we need to be ruthless and replace Palmer, but it needs to be with a GK who'll be ours next season, and is signed with a view to being a first-teamer on promotion as well.

With how we play, the GK and the 5 are so vital, and we need PL-ready players in both positions who can spend this season getting up to speed in order to hit the ground running upon promotion.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Fair, maybe to clarify my question - I don't expect he has got better, but do we need better than him? Or - is Palmer better than him?

He doesn’t need to be better, just needs to be the same as he was.

No, he’s not a very good goalkeeper. He had a good season and choose not to stay.

What we have is good enough to go up (well, should be) so I’d worry about a new GK come May.

But our goals scored covered up his errors in a lot of games.

Palmer is perfectly adequate for us now, if we go up, almost certainly not.

It would be ridiculous not to..... on 19:13 - Aug 31 with 1093 viewsBloots

....the keepers we have now don't make saves, so that won't change, but they are both too slow to move the ball and it's causing us massive issues.

But we'll probably just sign another lightweight winger.

Or a right back.

Hey-ho.

Goals in which his build up play was instrumental in us scoring.

He also made some unbelievable point saving saves that season. Sunderland away, Plymouth at home, Leicester away, Boro at home spring to mind.

Probably would yeah, assuming there's no one else available. Palmer was never meant to be a long term signing. Whatever happens he won't be first choice next season and can't see him lasting past Jan at this rate. If we can speed that up, so be it.

The fact we scored so many goals was partly down to him being able to actually play our system.

Sorry but his errors in a lot of games - what lot of games can you tell? I'm not saying he was perfect, he made an odd error here or there, but in a lot of games?

Absolutely not! He’s awful and I was delighted when we got rid. Burnley also figured that out very quickly.

Bizarrely, I think Muric would be better suited to us than Palmer at this level. But I guess that ship has sailed.

With Woolfie and Burgess ahead of him, absolutely. I don’t think O’Shea and Greaves have the same calmness and we’re more suited to clearing our lines now. So I doubt he’d make a difference in this team.

I hear you. But can't help but think (esp. after Derby game) both O'Shea and Greaves would be much calmer if they had confidence they won't get a hot potato from their GK at any point

No. Good as he was with his feet he was a flapper and could dominate his area. An upper L1/Lower champ keeper. Put him in a mid champ team and he'd be letting in a lot of goals.

Even when we went up he was an absolutely clear weak link (not in possession - he was brilliant on that front). History is being re-written in Hladky.
