Also, the noise their crowd makes has been defeaning. The Mackems have really surprised me so far this season, they have got a method, they are organised and they stick to their game plan. Impressive to watch.

| What the Sunderland fans are doing well this season on 21:53 - Jan 1 with 602 views | unstableblue | Is that they cheer, clap and roar a player with approval for even quite basic blocks and tackles in non key areas of the pitch… in short the players are emboldened and encouraged to perform Some of the Town players did some really neat things in dangerous areas and barely any crowd noise | |

I love that Sunderland don't purely sit back, they look to counter and take the game to the opponent when they have the opportunity. They've made the Stadium of Light a fortress.

Unfortunately, doing some neat things against Oxford isn’t going to get the same reaction as going toe to toe with Man City. Sunderland have gambled their PL windfall brilliantly and managed to put together an extremely competitive team. Their fans are loving the full blooded commitment and they’re rightly in dreamland, because they were being patronised in the usual lazy pre-season analysis as likely to end up with less points than the legendary Derby team. If we go up and spend more wisely this time I’d like to think we could make PR a similarly hostile fortress, with every block and attack greeted with a wall of noise. Unfortunately I don’t see it happening, purely because of the current layout and acoustics of the stadium and a general air of apathy that only ever seems to lift for brief periods. I’ve been a fan for over 55 years and it’s always been that way. Times when you think the roof is going to come off every time we score followed by periods where a goal barely raises a cheer and every mistake is amplified. It’s weird but I’ve kinda grown to accept it.

They did in League 1. Proper supporters. I’m pleased for them.
