Whatever his standing was 7/8 days ago there’s no way there’s been no impact. He’s at the very least used a life up and surely if there is ongoing confidence it will start to become increasingly conditional.

Yep, he thinks he's untouchable because he's positioned himself into a place where he is. Events like last week are the consequence when 1 person has the level of control he does, and the lack of a presence to keep him honest and provide some governance. I won't pretend I'd be as disgusted by it if it was Zolanski or a Green candidate, but I also recognise that's personal politics, and 1 thing I will always defend is people's right to a voice and their vote. That's what democracy is. I don't have to like it, but I'll defend someone's right to it. Even taking the politics out of it, I find it such a ridiculous misstep. There was never any value in it for the club, and its Ashton's job to do what's right for the club. Its negligent. He's been played like a fiddle, such a naive decision that's brought a huge amount of embarrassment upon the club and really left a lot of people within the club feeling annoyed, and some of the supporters. The reaction has been a clown show, a complete PR feck up, and the lies are unforgivable. Whether its this issue or any other, the CEO & Chairman of the club should not be willingly lying to press and supporters, that isn't OK. Nobody is bigger than the club, and Ashton would do well to remember he's an employee rather than the owner.

He has definitely positioned himself well but it's been that way since the start really. His relationship with Schwartz, Bakay, Johnson and Detmer pre-dates his time here. He essentially worked with them to find the 'perfect' club as an investment opportunity with him as the CEO driving it every day. He is a considerable reason for their investment in the first place - they implicitly trust him to deliver the plan and to deliver the returns they want. And seems he has that same level of trust from the new investors too. As an aside, do we really think he welcomed someone as divisive as NF at Portman Road for lunch without any of the ownership group knowing about it? Or equally that nobody in the ownership group approved the video with MA that went out on Friday? Seems unlikely to me personally. A lot of what Ashton said was bluff in the 'apology' but thought it was interesting he said 'the board were looking at policy with regards to politicians going forwards' (or words to that effect). Feels to me like they are taking some joint responsibility too.

You’re right, but I suspect more out of laziness than any notion he’s elite. Brett didn’t like him did he, that was obvious. And Gamechanger sold equity, which suggests they were loyal to Ashton. But there business people, it’s obvious from Ashtons board governance comments he didn’t have approval for this, and he’d be right to point out as Chair and CEO he didn’t need it - and that’s the issue, zero oversight. This is all downside. It’s not a question of the recreational and commercial cost, it’s only a question of scale. Sponsors, match day revenue, TV revenue (which is massive) .., they’re all getting hit hard, player retention and recruitment too. The scale will be big. They clearly aren’t football people, and replacing your entire executive function because you’ve been lazy, and had your hands off the wheel won’t be easy. Their approach to governance might be worse than Marks Ego .., we aren’t in a good pace off the pitch.., I’m sure they’re spending the coming weeks looking at what and who are available. Not the worst time of year to be looking. Edu on the football side, the good news is there’s an opportunity to progress…, the risk, the owners aren’t football people, that’s clear.

Farage is not close to being well known in the U.S. so I very much doubt the ownership group know or care who is, and I suspect Ashton didn’t think it worthy of mentioning. As for the video non-apology, maybe a quick text for a high level explanation. But more likely, no. We are still a very small piece of these guys’ investments. ITFC is the world to us. A line item to them.

Not on the back of upset fans. But sponsors and players (and agents) are a completely different matter. When your CEO upsets them, it ultimately hits you in the pocket. Why he'll get the bullet imho. Might take a while yet.
