I find their Sport page a bit disingenuous when it has the 'watch live' button when you click on a live score, only to login and and realise you're watching Chappers waffling on a podcast. Should've known really that BBC wouldn't have the rights, but there's nothing at all that suggests what you'll be watching live isn't the actual game. |  | | |

Not for me either - had to sign in on my laptop (I usually use phone where I keep permanently logged in).
I suspect that it's for a similar reason to an increasing number of newspapers/journals requiring membership - a falling " circulation" (ie people who don't buy TV licences) means their income & clout are also diminishing. In the Beeb's case, they need evidence of their popularity/use when it comes to future negotiations re the licence fee, or other proposed models of finance? |  |
