| Parachute payments 17:49 - May 10 with 2014 views | FrimleyBlue | Am I thinking of this incorrectly... Because we have gone up first time.. we never actually got any parachute payments. So does that go ontop of what we get in the summer or we simply just dont recieve any of it because we dont need it? | |

Ontop of what we get in the summer? Or we got this payment already last summer?

| Parachute payments on 17:57 - May 10 with 1897 views | Churchman | We got 49m this year. Next year’s payment is shared between the 20 PL clubs. I think that’s how it is (happy to be corrected). Personally if I’m right, I think the unused parachute payment for this coming season should be shared amongst the football league clubs - unless they play in yellow and have feathered cat food on their club badge. Only fair. | | | |

I don't know the precise time at which the basic 'Football league distributions' are made, just that they are paid during the financial year - certain top ups are based on televised games, which I guess might get paid after the televised game, and others are based on final league position so couldn't be calculated fore the final game. The top ups are (for us) minuscule compared to the basic distribution. The total for 24/25 was £107.5M This year's will be around £55-60M, and appear in the 25/26 accounts next April. To some extent it's not important exactly when we receive the payment, just that we know it's a credit for the year it falls in.

The EADT explained it quite well recently. https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/2 Im not sure how it works year on year. Shameful really as I sometimes audit accounts and am meant to have a basic understanding. Oh well.

I read our payment next year just goes back into the Premier League pot, rather then being paid out to clubs as such. I checked that as I was wondering if we would get paid 1/20th of Southampton's payment if they go up.

As I understand it, you are correct about the 2nd payment. Which I suppose is fair enough as you shouldn't really get paid for something that you're not going to do. In this case play in the Championship for the 2nd consecutive season. Though point taken about the football league clubs.

I hadn't thought about this before, but I make you 100% correct that it should go to the EFL clubs. Of course, would never happen.

| Parachute payments on 09:18 - May 11 with 783 views | darkhorse28 | We get FIVE years revenue as a minimum now, which should confuse. Including promotion last time. Initial eye watering sum for last promotion, one years parachute (we didn’t need the second) and now another season plus guaranteed two years parachute money. Only get two years if you’re in the EFL. We’re in the tent peeing out now, which is great for us, but the gap between £12 million and well over £200 million for three years TV money now, is eye watering. Great to be on the right side, but don’t forget we had 22 years the wrong side of that equation, something will need to change. Either better distribution, or I suspect more likely, the 3 up and down will be under threat, so obviously that could go either way for us. Stay up and it’s an additional years parachute money, which is why staying up is so transformative for being able to pay more wages etc. but also the structural change will come, and maybe sooner than we think . A European league - so many European games now it’s almost already happened, and the elites will want a slightly smaller league and fewer games. Look at PSG resting players for Europe. Our clubs are pushing hard to reduce games. We need to be in the prem when those changes happen. We might have big decisions to make to transition to a sustainable premier league club. | | | |
