Brilliant atmosphere in Dallas tonight, Japan making a hell of a noise. Usually tournaments feel a slow burner but this has been anything but. Upsets, comebacks and I think only two teams have failed to score. There’s going to be some crazy games in the R32 when this all shakes out.

Managed to see all the games since Friday night, all live except Australia v Turkey which I recorded and watched this morning. Annoyed I have a job and that I’ve got to go to bed now with a 5:30 alarm set Hopefully be home in time for Spain v Cape Verde.

The first half from Morocco last night and second half of Japan today were very impressive. Been some really good finishes as well in multiple games. I’m sure the third round might be rather dull with so many go through (although many will still be playing to win groups or for positioning) but I’ve really enjoyed the football in the main. Silly though it sounds but Curacao scoring against Germany. It was never going to end well but their supporters went nuts. Loved it. Japan, S Korea, Morocco - excellent.

Yeah I’m familiar with a lot of the players for Japan, S.Korea and Morocco with many playing in Europe but seeing them together as a team compete at that level is pretty cool. USA could cause some damage if they have clicked. A lot has been said of the extended tournament format but it will be chaos in the knockouts, some weird results will be thrown up.

I forgot USA to my shame. They were excellent. Dislike the kit but loved how they played.

One big advantage the USA have is a top class striker up front

They’ve got a proper team now throughout to be honest. I think they’ll make at least R16, possibly better if draw falls for them. Much better with the ball than without though, they’ll still get scored on.

I see Ivory Coast scored a goal, late in the 4th quarter, giving them a one to zero victory.

Yes, they looked a little vulnerable. Love the pace these teams are playing at. It makes the way the Dutch for example are playing look pedestrian.

Just as it looked to be heading for a tie.
| What a brilliant weekend of football! on 09:27 - Jun 15 with 525 views | Esseeja | Once again, politically, I hate everything that has happened to lead up to this World Cup. It's been a long mess for a long while now. Football, however... I can't remember feeling bored for more than 30 minutes and most of those came in the Qatar Switzerland game. I'm extremely entertained. Honestly, even the qualification process throughout the world interested me, it's the first time I've really cared to follow it. It was actually quite enthralling during international breaks. It feels nice to have more teams you want to showcase what they can do to the world who have no idea how good they can be. I'm starting to grow to this new format, honestly. One thing that I could do without, however? Hydration breaks. [Post edited 15 Jun 9:29]
