ONE newspaper's take on Ipswich's home defeat on Sunday was: 'Norwich put heat on McCarthy.' A graphic showed Ipswich's league position on August 19 - second - and their 11th place now. Yet who thought Ipswich were going to sustain that start? They have spent a fraction of the budget of most rivals in a league that is more competitive than ever, with so many big clubs vying for two guaranteed promotion places. Even 11th might be overachievement for Ipswich - yet somehow Mick McCarthy is under pressure for sitting mid-table.

That isn't about the money, is it? Unless Ipswich's owners think they deserve Premier League largesse for low-level Championship investment.

You mean Ipswich's fans think they deserve Premier League largesse for low-level Championship investment.

From what I've seen the league really isn't that strong. A better prepared and well organised team would have beaten that lot on Sunday.

If resources are so scarce why do we waste so much money on players we don't intend to play or on positions where we are already well covered? Why are we making no attempt to innovate with our scouting, etc rather than going for the same small pool of players all the time.

The same excuses can only be trotted out for so long before people ask what are we pro actively doing to address the disadvantages.

As well as a first team, we have an under-23s (essentially reserves) team which usually plays the same week as the first team. That's 11 players plus 5/7 subs per game. So we need 30-35 players fit at any given time...

So, we're not wasting money on players who aren't playing - we're spending money on salaries to fulfill our fixtures...

There is, in fact, far greater reason to sack a Premiership manager who is underperforming, because (by and large) all managers in the top flight have such huge resources to draw on. £100m for the team which finishes bottom of the Prem this season. In itself, that levels the playing field, certainly outside of the Top 6 or so clubs (who can generate greater income through European competition, bigger stadia etc.).

Maybe we can all start doing cartwheels when we finish top 3 in the reserve/u23s league!

Oh I forgot, we're not N*rwich.

Why not play the academy graduates? Is that not what the U23s is for, not for failed signings?

With our scouting? I thought our scouts where long gone?

Isn't the concerning thing about the current direction of travel? 11th isn't a bad position - most of us would have been happy with it at this stage before the season began, but ....! Currently it's like we're in a lift going downward and we don't know what floor we'll eventually stop at!

For me the key is whether he can arrest the decline in the next 4-5 games. We really need to get a couple of wins to arrest the decline and level off the drop down the league. Having gone on record as having the best squad in all his time here MM really needs to start to show them holding their own and not flirting with the bottom half. If he cannot get this group of players playing decent football and being able to hold their own against the majority of teams then it will be time for him to go.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

Clearly our scouts haven't been watching football. Probably watching golfers tee off to see how high they can hit the ball😀

There's still some on the payroll - no idea what they do all a day as the only players we sign are ones we've been offered by agents touting round or by other clubs trying to offload. Even Mick only seems to go by video footage.

Whilst things are not great right now, that's flat out wrong.

They certainly looked vulnerable, we just lacked the extra gear

We have some decent players but could still do with a focal point IMHO

We have a lot of number 10's but where is the pacey fox in the box or big imposing targetman?

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

If we play just academy graduates, we don’t have enormous go players for our academy teams.

Don’t have a cow, man. You asked why we have so many players who won’t make the first team and I answered your question. Sorry for ruining your point with facts,
