Friday tunes on 11:15 - Feb 22 by blueislander | Didn’t Nick of Nick and The Nomads join the Pink Fairies. |
No sign of Nik (and I am struggling to remember Nick's surname at the moment, which is cramping my Googling somewhat) in the timeline of Pink Fairies members: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Fairies There are a few other (one or two tenuous) Ipswich connections though - Art School pupil Brian Eno used their guitarist Paul Rudolph (who is Canadian and I never knew that until I just read the Wikipedia page) on his early studio albums. I used to share a house with someone who walked onto the stage and told The Pink Fairies to eff off because they were useless in front a fifteen strong audience at The Baths Hall in the mid seventies, as far as I know the audience generally concurred and eff off they did (was not there myself), bit sad if this was a sign of a new wave arriving as it could be argued that their precursors The Social Deviants could have been a germ for the punk scene in London. And finally, the latest form of The Pink Fairies includes Racecourse Ward generated and ex.Hawkwind bassist Alan Davey (who in a ominous coincidence I used to work with in an Ipswich shopfitters when he was a carpenter). Edit - my memory has finally clicked into gear, its Nicky Wymer, isn't it? Did a google search and it came up with a young lady that teaches yoga. Pretty amazing that she was offered the vocalist job with Led Zeppelin before Robert Plant... [Post edited 23 Feb 2020 6:50]
