Iran has gone nuts 20:45 - Mar 5 with 1862 views | Lord_Lucan | Recently the government assured its people that there was no Coronavirus problem and now dozens of government officials and members of parliament are infected and a senior adviser to the supreme leader has died. In order to prevent the virus sweeping through the prison system they have just released 50,000 prisoners - of which a fair proportion are probably infected. Way to go! Edit; I wonder if Coronavirus could cause a regime change because Tehran is more western than people think [Post edited 5 Mar 2020 20:56]

Iran has gone nuts on 22:06 - Mar 5 with 1611 views | StokieBlue | Crazy regime in doing crazy things shocker. They have handled it appallingly. The worst thing they did was cover it up for weeks and not close the holy sites or pilgrimage routes. That was unbelievably idiotic. it's a total mess there now. SB [Post edited 5 Mar 2020 22:41]

Iran has gone nuts on 22:40 - Mar 5 with 1511 views | eastangliaisblue | Who knows could be a trigger for regime change. Or could go the reverse and be an excuse to clamp down even more on large gatherings etc. You're right what you say about the people of Iran being more western than people think. It's always baffled me a little bit as to why they put up with the regime. I know it's very tough for them to protest but still. It's always been a country i've wanted to visit. Fascinating place with a lot to see.

The students protest quite a bit, they are just ignored and then put down. Changes may have when the ayatollah dies. SB

That could get interesting when it does happen. A big battle of ideals to fill the vacuum i imagine. Could get very bloody!

It was a modern country until the revolution. The stupid religious zealots are ruining lives and if there was ever anywhere the West might have actually been welcome when it comes to interference, it could have been there.

Iran has gone nuts on 06:55 - Mar 6 with 1120 views | hampstead_blue | Richard Radcliffe was on the radio recently saying his poor wife was suffering with flu like symptoms and was in a communal cell. No treatment or testing was available. Very sad
| Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Religious beliefs when that deeply entrenched are nigh on impossible to remove. Like a stain you can't quite shift.

True but i don't think a lot of the population has those extreme beliefs particulary in Tehran. Unfortunately the lunatics took over the asylum. Once that happens it's hard to come back from when all power is with said lunatics and all dissent crushed

“A woman in her 60s has just tested positive,” reads a typical text, “Click on the link for the places she visited before she was hospitalised" If you removed 60s and woman and just said a person then that's an excellent piece of public service information. She also must have volunteered that information herself. Don't really see how it's Big Brother unless one has an axe to grind. I'd be more worried about ones fellow citizens wanting to spend time investigating people's lives and spreading rumours based on fairly slim geographical evidence. SB [Post edited 6 Mar 2020 8:37]
