Downes contract 14:53 - Jul 3 with 1842 viewsTerry_Nutkins

Hi Phil, how long left on Downes contract? Are you aware if club are looking to pin him down?

I imagine it will be tough to hold in to him. Got to be our primary asset right niw but we are better covered in midfield at least.

Was told not given the contract is effectively until 2023. Woolfenden's contract was more about getting him up to a wage in line with his status as a regular first teamer as he was only just making his mark at that level when he signed his previous deal.

Cheers Phil and Joe..whats your gut feeling Phil. I think either a prem side takes him or he'll stay. I think Covid prices champ teams out possibly.

It will be very tough to hold onto him. Quality player we should make the most of while he's still with us.

You may well be right re Championship clubs. I'm not sure a Premier League club would come in for him at this stage.

I don't think so either (but you never know). He's plenty good enough for a decent Champinship or a yoyo PL/Championship club though.

My gut feeling for what its worth is both will at least start the season with us and most likely still be our players this time next season. I also think their is a half decent chance Luke Garbutt will sign a deal with Town .

I think you may be right about Downes & Woolfie as Championship clubs will also be hugely cash strapped & they don't look ready for the Premier League yet. I doubt we will sign Garbutt - we have 40 pros on our books & a Championship club will surely offer a free agent like him a better contract than us.

You could well be right but many Championship clubs will be tight for cash as well and Luke has been in league 1 for the last 2 years done ok without setting the place on fire and missed quite a lot of football .Time will tell but unlike some i think we have a chance !

If we were to continue playing Garbutt as a lb or wing back then I'm more than happy for him to go elsewhere. The only times he's impressed has been when he's played higher up the pitch, defensively he's not great.

I do agree his best is left midfield with Kenlock seemingly not up to it PL had very little option but to play him there . In an ideal world we would sign a decent left back and re sign Garbutt as well but with finances tight dont hold your breath .
