I read it as he didn’t want to sack him because it would cost £4 million

But at the same time think he wanted him to stay as he knew he’d get them back up.

The owner came across as pretty genuine on that clip, but there's 2 sides to every story of course. I imagine Wilder knew where the season was heading and wanted out while his stock was high, so he could maintain his relationship with the supporters etc. It's an extra level of pressure being a local lad in some respects and I dare say he didn't want his name against a relegation. If I were the owner, with no intention of sacking him, I don't think I would've been too happy about anyone demanding £4m to resign.
