NFL Draft yesterday - a question for y'all.... yeehaw .... 10:27 - Apr 30 with 696 viewsKeno

Would English football be better served if all the Academies were put under a centralised control linked to colleges and Universities with graduating players drafted each season in the similar way to the NFL Draft?

The teams at the top of pyramid could trade top pick with teams lower down, which would potentially provide a redistribution of wealth for those clubs

Young players could get a more grounded overall education, rather than it being mainly football based

And we would have all the fun and spectacle of a 'Draft Day'

yea.... errrr ..... haw

Well posters what y'all be thinking

(PS Did the Dolphins do ok yesterday?)

Something needs to happen to control the big clubs effort to manipulate football to their ends and, for that reason, a draft will never happen. Would be interesting though.

The Dolphins were probably just beaten to the punch on their first draft but did well with their second.

Driving home last night they were talking about the draft on talk sport. They cam up with 10 things more boring than watching the draft, number 1 was watching paint dry and number 10 was watching Ipswich Town.

Not sure how it’ll work.

In general don’t NFL players make their debuts after they’ve finished university at 21? Whereas over here most players make their debuts whilst still teenagers and still technically high school age.

What needs to happen is to limit how many youth players the top clubs can have.

Not sure how the logistics would work but it’s not the worst idea ever.

Funnily enough the only way it could possibly work would be if there was some sort of closed shop league for the top teams (let’s call it the ‘Super League’) which other players could then annually declare themselves available for... 👀

I was thinking more of a “best of non league” draft where prem/champ clubs are forced to pick best lower league talent - for significant fees and sell-ons. Again, no idea how it would work. There’s no real in between from college ball to NFL. Very different to our pyramid structure

Exactly. It just wouldn't work at all over here.

Truly impaired.

It could work if you restructured all the academies, linked them to colleges or uni's

but that wont happen so we will stick with the system we have

It wouldn't work because we don't have a small group of closed shop clubs.

Truly impaired.
