Vaclav Hladky - An Insight 10:29 - Jun 28 with 2210 viewsTomTheWriter

Honestly, I hadn't thought about Vaclav Hladky once the deal for Siegrist looked to be falling apart. My first guess was that maybe we would have gone for Josh Griffiths from West Bromwich, after his excellent season with Cheltenham last year.

However, I am very happy to be wrong if this is the guy we are after. Best save percentage in League Two, is has the highest save percentage of all the first choice goalkeepers in England last season, just beating out Tim Krul of Norwich City.

I really like this guy, one worry as of right now is not knowing what kind of fee we would be paying. You'd assume it would be lower than the £350,000 offered to Siegrist?

Sounds like just what we need, although I haven’t heard much about how well he commands his area. I assume he will be brought in as the number 1 if it all goes through?

When I saw the quote about him being in the Premier League if he was a few inches taller I was expecting him to be around 5’10”, but the article claims he’s 6’2” which is pretty standard really.

Yeah very likely to be the new number one, deserves that after his season with Salford. Yeah the Goodwin quote was surprising to me as well, makes me think that Tomas Holy should be in the Premier League now!

Think we all need to not worry about fees and wages now. Given to understand from a couple of bods on here who know about this stuff that they don’t count towards the League One FFP framework so it’s all irrelevant really. The new owners are clearly in charge of a good sum of the investors money!

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

22 clean sheets in a team that didn't even reach playoffs means he must have been doing something right!

Absolutely, money doesn't seem to be a problem with us. My only hesitancy, is that its been proven on multiple occasions that you don't have to spend money to get out of the league, you just need the right ingredients.

What I am liking, however, is that Mark Ashton is in charge of all of this. Could you imagine how much Marcus Evans would have offered for Wes Burns and Rekeem Harper? Ashton knows how to get the best deal possible, whereas Evans would offer anything to get them. The haggling from Ashton has to be the best part of the window so far IMO

Was incredible last year, there's an analysis image on Twitter showing Hladky's performance over the season last year. The kind of stats and performance that came out of him last season saw numerous people expecting him to get a Championship move.

Could be the best deal of the summer, getting someone who doesn't just stop the ball from going in the net, but you don't feel anxious about when the ball is at his feet.

Wages do (max 60% of turnover), transfer fees don't.

With the former, our turnover is quite high for L1, so is going to provide more leeway than is the case for many of our rivals. Plus we're cutting down on overall numbers and several of those who've left will be among our higher earners.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Quite surprised it doesn’t appear we were in for the Pompey GK tbh, their fans seem gutted about losing him and claim he’s the best in the division. Good age, free transfer and obviously has a working relationship with out current GK coach, wonder what the reason was for not pursuing him.

Probably the reason why Wigan have been able to offer fairly large wages, because when they sold all their players at the beginning of last season, they weren't able to offer big wages to their players, so they have been saving them for this season.

From what I read earlier in the summer, we released five of our six highest earners, with Norwood taking the top spot (before summer signings of course).

From the analysis graph a Derby County fan put on Twitter, he has one of the best save rates in the league, simialr to that of Hladky.

However, the biggest problem with MacGillivray is his short passing. We know Cook wants someone who is comfortable with their feet, and according to Pompey fans that was his biggest issue, and Hladky was aerially stronger than Craig as well.

Both excellent goalkeepers, think the passing ability swayed it in Hladky's favour.

Will be very interested to see what happens with Siegrist this season, whether or not he leaves Dundee or stays for the year and goes as a free agent next summer.

I think, in the past, we've seen Keane, Jewell and Hurst buy players because they've been available to us for a 'cheaper' price, whereas this season with Paul Cook, he is buying players solely for a system.

He knows what works, and will only buy a player that fits that role. There was a lot of central midfielder's available this summer. Shaun Williams, Max Power, Tom Naylor, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Grant Leadbitter, that all have League One or even Championship experience. But Cook bypassed them all to sign Rekeem Harper, who has no L1 experience. Solely because, he fits the box-to-box role Cook wants from his centre midfielder.

paying fees probably keeps the wage bill down too, far harder for the player to field multiple offers
