Going to be really interesting to see... 22:17 - Sep 26 with 1004 viewsOriginalMarkyP

... what team PC puts out against Donnie.

It feels he can't really afford another performance of lots to like but only a point.

certainly not against them.

So it feels must win, even if he could lose it and stay in the job.

But he HAS to win it with his system I think.

If for sake of argument, he went 4-4-2 with Bonne and Pigott/Norwood up top and won there would be too much criticism around 'why did he stick with his system so long if it didn't suit the players?'

So it has to be 4231.

I wonder if he goes all guns blazing at the start. With Morsy the only defensive minded person ahead of the back four, tries to overwhelm them and then add some more defensive steel with a 2 goal (itd be nice) cushion, keep it tight and catch them on the break. OR go more conservative at the start, try and tire them out and then add more pace and creativity.

be interesting to see how he approaches it.

It will not be a 442 - I really don't see why people persist with the thought that it might/could be.

I know it won't.

It's a hypothetical argument.

I'm saying that...

PC knows this is a 'must win' game. Ergo he must consider all his options and which presents the best opportunity to win. I'm saying one argument suggests that the players he has have not yet 'mastered' his preferred formation, and he might to give himself the best chance of a one off win, play a formation they really know how to play. Having negotiated the must win game he can return on the training ground and in matches to getting them more familiar with and better at playing HIS system.

BUT...I think that isn't even an option. Because winning playing 4-4-2 is like throwing in the towel. So he has to do it his way, even if he could see an argument for switching it to get this win in the bag.

Which when you think about is INSANE. There are lots of systems in football. Surely by sticking to one, especially one that the players haven't actually mastered is putting an incredible amount of pressure on that one formation (that you could even argue he hasn't got the personnel for). In normal life you wouldn't just keep trying one option when others are available to you. But he can't. He can't mix it up because he's wedded to the system. And if you have one system that everyone knows you are going to play, you must be to an extent predictable. Man City might play one system but are so well drilled in it which such good players, that knowing what they are going to do doesn't really help you, but we aren't even the Man City of league one. The players aren't familiar enough with or used to playing the system.

when man city threw out their system they lost the champions league final!

cook professes to be a fundamentalist 4-2-3-1 with flying full-backs person, but in reality he mixes it depending on players and opposition.

wondering if he might be more confident with morsy coming in (and playing "weaker" opposition) and give his partner more of a progressive role (maybe harper?)

It’s a little bit Lambingo trying to predict his teams in part because of these mysterious short term hamstring injuries we keep picking up. But I would say it looks more and more like Donacien and 1P are our best bets in those roles and should stay. Ed and Burg seem nailed on as do Morsy Burns and Bonne. The rest is anyone’s guess.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
