Where does the left go from here? 14:20 - Nov 10 with 767 views | Darth_Koont | No, not that left. The political left will carry on as normal: being right and waiting for the centre and the right to catch up in a generation or three. But, more pressingly, what about our left flank? And specifically the huge contrast with the much more settled and organised right-hand side. On the right, we’ve got any combination of Burns and Aluko in attack with Donacien and KVY in defence. And Burns shuttling between the two if KVY is out. I’m confident however Cook has to sort it out. But on the left we’ve tried Chaplin, Celina, Edwards, Barry and Fraser in attack, and Penney, Coulson, Kenlock, Burgess, Clements and even Donacien in defence. For a variety of reasons (injury and also filling the number 10 slot) there doesn’t seem to be much of a first-choice combination. And none of the pairings have worked as well as pretty much any of the pairings on the other side. Personally, I’d go for Burgess in defence and Edwards or Celina ahead in attack for the time being. Burgess is more limited running forward but he’s still an answer to our Achilles heel of defending balls into the box. And while Coulson is still injured and before we see more of Clements, Penney is the backup. He can also do a Burns and play further forward too. Long-term and probably beyond this season, I wonder if we’ll see Humphreys come into it – absolutely love him as an all-rounder on the left. But before then perhaps a new left-back in January is the priority especially if Coulson is crocked? What do we reckon?

I’ve liked him at LB. But if he can’t stay fit then we’ll always struggle for consistency. At the very least, we need a Steady-Eddy, Donacien-type on the left who can always anchor that side of our defence. Burgess is the closest for me at the moment anyway.

I don't feel we've given him enough time when the team is clicking to evaluate him properly. Time to move Edwards to the bench I think and bring him on when defenders legs are tiring. We have more options in the centre.

I agree, Chaplin has been in good form in the number 10 role so rather than having to choose between Celina or Chaplin in that role it makes sense to play Celina on the left where we know he can be effective and where nobody else has really nailed down the shirt. Left back is a tougher one for me. Coulson just can't stay fit it seems. Penney is a tidy footballer but weak defensively. Burgess is more solid defensively but lacks pace and won't offer much going forward. If KVY can get back to form and fitness I'd be tempted to give him a run there.

I think you’re right about that. Also gives Edwards something to aim for as Celina gets his starting place on effectiveness/end product. I think Edwards has done a more complete all-round job but he’s really got to start hurting teams more.
