Practice hike.... 13:03 - Jul 17 with 927 viewsBanksterDebtSlave

Junior and I were meant to be squeezing in a practice half marathon today as it is the last free day we have before the 31st. However I drank a fair bit last night and it is pretty hot out. Whoops! Really hope it cools down soon, walking might not be quite as easy as I had hoped.

I thought you were supposed to run a marathon.

Hangover and exercise is never good.

Reckon you should put it off to tomorrow dinner time, with a bit of luck Jnr's school will have closed to allow all the teachers to skive off down the beach too.

We are actually contemplating a night walk following a day of rehydrating. Moon is fairly full and it should be a little cooler.

You're supposed to eat them but that's another matter.

That does sound cooler...in both senses of the word.

Don't go into that walk too short of practice, not only will it make your chances of success better but it will make the jaunt more enjoyable.

Yep, makes a lot more sense tbh. My suggestion would be to find a spot where you can park and do a circular 4 to 5 miles - that way you can fill yer boot with drinks / snacks rather than carry them.

When I'm training for marathons etc. I generally either take a hydration vest with a litre of water and gels etc. Or park up and do 6-9 mile laps with the odd car break.

Practice whatever you plan to do on the day in terms of food and drink. You'd be surprised how personal fuelling and hydration is. Some like water, some like colas. Some people can't do the gels. Nothing new on race day!

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Plain crisps, electrolytes, SiS fruit salad gels.

Honestly, it's the way forward.

Got me through a 55 miler the other weekend and that was fffffin' hot!
