Now then, that’s great news 20:28 - Jul 25 with 2026 viewsclive_baker

Keeper: Walton (Hladky)
RWB: Burns (KVY)
LWB: Davis (Leigh)
CB: JD, Woolf, Edmundson (Burgess)
CM: 2 from Morsy, Evans, Ball
Hole: 2 from Chaplin, Aluko, Harness
FWD: Ladapo (Jackson, J-J)

I would say that makes Penney & El Miz surplus. Harper probably hangs around until Jan, as does Edwards and then make a call on them. I think we’re probably 1 bit of X factor short in the final 3rd, whether that be Celina or Hirst or another. Certainly feels like a very well balanced squad though, especially compared to this time last year.

Massive to get Davis over the line. COYB.

Another 6 footer. We seem to be getting some height and physicality into the squad this year.

First XI: Walton - Donacien, Woolfenden, Edmundson - Burns, Davis, Morsy, Evans - Chaplin, Harness - Ladapo

Second XI: Hladky - Ball, Burgess, Leigh - Vincent-Young, Edwards, Harper, El Mizouni - Aluko, Jackson, John-Jules

Obviously Ball will more likely play in midfield and Leigh at LWB but we’re well stocked in defence if we suffer injuries. Midfield is slightly less well stocked; I imagine we will keep at least one of Harper or El Mizouni until January.

It really is a fantastic squad and has moved on massively compared to what we started with last season.

I'm still a bit nervous about goals, if we get a striker in the mould of Hirst i firmly believe the top 2 can happen this season.

I really wanted Celina, but it would almost be a bit ridiculous if we landed him as well with Harness signed, the number of options available to Mckenna would be crazy.

Absolutely buzzing for Saturday

Feels like we also need another CM, 3 for two places does not seem enough.

The only Muff in Town.

I think we’re fine in CM, we have Morsy, Evans, Ball, El Mizouni, Harper and Humphries. We’ll probably end up loaning one out.

Be interesting to see whether Aluko starts. He's been exceptional in preseason and ties a lot of our attacking work together.

I think Edwards may break into that starting XI at some point.

Ball and Evans will be battle it out.

Blimey, have we ever had a team of over 6 footers? I can’t remember one…

I think Cam Humphries is gonna make a real impact this season. But when you look at that second string - wow. That 2nd string team must be good enough to push for the play offs. The pace we have across the attacking line is just going to be insane. Hang on to your hats, it's gonna be a fast ride.

Well if we are chasing promotion I would say El Miz and Harper are not up to the job on last seasons showing, unless they have significantly improved. Humphries maybe, but that is as yet unclear.

Ball in defence? Surely Ndaba.

I think El Mizouni will be ahead of Ndaba in McKenna’s final 22 so that’s how I got him in there. If we pick up an injury in defence do I think we’ll move Ball back and bring Evans into midfield? Yes, I have a feeling we may well do.

I think there are gaps upfront and in the 10 which is why we remain in for Hirst and Celina I guess, but you have to say behind those positions it is an exceptional squad for this level right now (and just a sprinkling of quality away from being the same up top).

Really feel that there are games this season where we will just be a juggernaut and overrun sides - especially if we are able to use our 5 subs well and have a full 90 press in place.

Agree that’s a strong balanced squad

I think we might see Leigh at LCB with Woolf centre and Edmundson on the right leaving Burgess surplus to requirements as JD and Ndaba provide back up (and Davis too) .

I think Edwards is Davis back up and he can play further forward and Harness can double for Burns so it might be KVY who can’t find a home although he can play both flanks. Penney definitely looks like leaving.

CM would include Humphries as an option but El Miz looks surplus as you say but the 3 forward positions do look light in numbers don’t they, which would be sorted by Celina and Hirst

yes, definitely ok in CM, plenty of options, and two absolute gems, so not sure why anyone would think we are short there. Still don't think we've seen the best of Harper and Humphries could be our joker in the pack this year. Exciting options all over the pitch...just would like another option up top because strikers all go hot and cold whoever they are.
