Making 10 changes after 2 league games? Why? 21:58 - Aug 9 with 1115 views | N2_Blue | I could understand this after a few months of hard league games and players in a settled team crying out for a break. Buy we have played two league games and R1 of the league cup is always after one or two league games. Are the players really in need of a break? Surely you want to get a squad familiar/ last year this year we've had a number of debutants starting the season, yet we completely change the whole team. With the FL trophy a bit later to give fringe players minutes it just makes absolutely no sense to me but why do we continually do it?? I really don't care about the competition, but I do care about getting a wining settled team and this continually does us no favours. If we don't beat MK on Saturday this policy should be banned by the club whoever our manager is until there is a genuine reason to rest players in a settled successful team.

how does tonight make players happy? 5 squad players plus 6 first teamers would give us far more chance of winning these types of game and then you could play some different fringe players in the next round should you win. i can understand 4 or 5 changes but 10 is stupid, it never ever works. 1 game for the season won't make anyone happy, i just don't understand how this keeps players happy.

Pompey played the bulk of their league side, great win. Tbf, we did batter Colchester but didn’t score.

Got to say, I’m with you on this. I’d prefer to rest 5 players, put the 5 subs from Saturday in and bring in another 5. The players don’t need a rest, but they will benefit from games together so why not play them and get the benefit.

A squad this size....means you 'have' to rotate like this. Its a fact....I'm not disputing your observation that more first teamers would have made a difference...you are right. But KM doesn't have that luxury as he needs to play some of these players. That second XI tonight is utterly ridiculous for L1.

Sorry don’t agree. Players should earn being in any line up at any level. Not just be bunged in a team purely because they are on our books. That’s where problems start and may be why we lose many of these games. If players have signed stipulating that if they are not selected in the first XI they must play cup games they shouldn’t be being signed in the first place!

Those players should not be happy and they should also realise why they are not in the first team if they lose to trash like Colchester. God help us if we get injuries and have to rely on any of those jokers!!! [Post edited 9 Aug 2022 22:36]

Making 10 changes after 2 league games? Why? on 00:09 - Aug 10 with 799 views | ParisBlue | The "Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday" myth. By all means rotate for the pizza cup. But with this season starting early there's just 5 scheduled midweek games all season (plus Xmas, easter). Same team, every game please. Including the FA Cup.

Making 10 changes after 2 league games? Why? on 02:31 - Aug 10 with 746 views | Kropotkin123 | 13 of the last 30 promoted teams from League 1* were knocked out of the League Cup in round one. That includes Wolves who got 103 points, Sheffield Utd who got 100 points and Bristol City who got 99 points. It is the equivalent of losing a pre-season friendly. It would have been nice to have more games, so we can keep fringe players sharp. But we can use five subs and have the Pizza Cup to come. *Excludes the Covid season that ended early
