Is Hirst still an ongoing pursuit? 13:57 - Aug 22 with 2170 viewsDarth_Koont

I think TJJ made a good account of himself on Saturday. Not just the goal but his all-round play suggested he’ll be good cover and competition for Ladapo at the very least.

But probably still a central striker short. Jackson gives us different options across the front line and out wide but not really the presence and focal point up front we might need. And we lose the flexibility if he has to fill a certain gap more permanently. The same is true for TJJ as well, I think.

Anyway, from Hirst’s goals video, I noticed that Harness gave him 3 or 4 assists for Pompey last season. Looks like there’s a partnership/understanding there. Now that Harness has made himself first choice maybe we really should be getting the band back together?

Reading KMC comments from Friday, I do wonder if we've moved on from Hirst. Mentioned about wanting an attacking player as opposed to a striker specifically. Can see an attacking midfielder being the priority moving forward.

Poll: Has our squad been improved this summer?

Could be – we have very flexible attacking patterns and movement so lots of different player types could come on. Or KMac is negotiating by saying we have lots of other options.

Ladapo being out would be a worry though. He’s the player who looks like they can lead the line effectively which should be more important against the better sides.

I suspect that having addressed the main weaknesses in the squad (left side, more steel and a couple of strikers that can stretch defences), KM is basically interested in anyone now that can improve our squad/bring new qualities to the group. If we could sign a quality player that improved us in a position other than striker, but could not get a deal done for a striker, I think we'd do it before the deadline.

If we didn't sign anyone else this window, I wouldn't be too disheartened. I think we have a plenty strong enough squad, a maturing identity and momentum/belief now.

It sounded like Leicester want him to sign a new contract and then go on loan to a championship club.

That seems very likely to me. Right now Leicester have no money for players in (bizarrely) - so I guess they probably want to see if a youngster may still come good.

Good player but a bit of an arsehole apparently so not sure he'd fit in.
