So squad depth with the injuries… Plymouth prospects 23:11 - Sep 23 with 1390 viewsunstableblue

––––-–––Walton (Hdalky)
–––––Donacien–Wolf (Keogh)–Edmundson
Burns (KVY/Edwards)––––––––––-Davis
–––-Morsy (Humphreys)––Evans (Ball)
–––––––Chaplin––Harness (JJ)
––––––––––Ladapo

Ahadme back soon, Camara still some weeks (he’ll give us a lot of options and energy)

Aluko, Burgess, Leigh are losses… burgess was on real form and Leigh was good energy for Davis later on. Left side defence looks a little lacking in depth now.

But I just really hope on Sunday we don’t freeze like we did at Hillsborough, we simply weren’t at our best despite getting the 2 goal lead, and yet should have won easily. Plymouth will be stronger in my view.

Latter stages of first half at Hillsborough we had a five minute spell when we got it down and started to really pass the ball and stretch them… but we didn’t have the composure to keep it up

Just hope we get our confidence and game together and dominate the ball.

Need strong player performances across the pitch

We take 7 points from the next 3 (Cambridge will be tricky) then I think we’ll do automatic

But have a niggling feeling it’s going to be a lot less.

Thing is, we've purposely gone out and bought or retained people who can play in multiple positions. So

GK: Walton (Hladky)
RCB: Donacien (Keogh/Ball)
CB: Wolf (Keogh/Ball)
LCB: Edmundson (Keogh/Ball)
RW/RWB: Burns (KVY/Edwards/Jackson)
LW/LWB: Davis (KVY)
CM: Morsy (Ball/Humphreys)
CM: Evans (Ball/Humphreys)
F: Chaplin (JJ/ Jackson/Edwards)
F: Harness (JJ/Jackson/Edwards)
S: Ladapo (JJ/Jackson)

That's not to say each person is great in those position, more that they can specialize in some of those roles and do a job in others.

That's before we consider we've lost surprisingly few first choice players. As much as Burgess was having a cracking spell, Edmundson was first choice last season, and has had good games this season.

Leigh was pushing Davis hard, but Davis was first choice for most games.

Aluko has such good hold up play. Best forward coming off the bench in my opinion. Would have been great to bring on at Sheff Wed. But, he isn't first choice.

Like you, I hope we win this one. Undefeated and 6 points from 4 of the top six is much better than 3 or 4. From a points and confidence perspective.

Even with the injuries this squad is more than enough to get points at this level and we should all be very disappointed if they don’t.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

We can't be making excuses, even wit the injuries we still have a far better first XI than most.

Having such a big / strong squad helps us when we do have injuries.

Other teams have injuries too, its not just us.

Burgess is the only first choice player we are missing, and he wasn't first choice a few weeks ago.

… he’s really versatile through midfield and attack

Ahadme will be back soon as well.

Need to keep Davis fit.

I do think the other replies point that the squad is still strong enough for success is about to be truly tested and our true credentials tested:
Plymouth (a)
Pompey (h)
Cambridge (a)
Morecambe (a)
Derby (h)

A great run of games to see where the project, McKenna and the squad strength is…

If come the end of the Derby weekend fixtures that we’re still top, then I’d start to get very confident about automatic.

I WOULD LOVE to take 6+ points from Plymouth, Pompey and Derby… but a big part of me still doesn’t believe we’ll do it… and that stems from a out of sorts performance at Hillsborough, and throwing away 2 points when given to us

Come on you blues… let’s go up a gear this weekend
