In my very humble opinion we need … 17:50 - Nov 12 with 1152 viewsArnieM

A CB to pkk lol ah alongside Burgess and a Striker.

What we have isn’t good enough. In my view.

DEFENCE:
Their goal came about because yet again a defender didn’t “ deal” with the opponent and a ball in the air.

First rule of defending : don’t let the ball bounce . Woolfie did exactly that and then fartarsed around trying to “ beat” his man with the ball on the ground . F lucking stick it OUT FFS. He liars that battle , meanwhile the majority of our team had gone up the pitch . Easy cross into our box. Soft goal again. Even Waltons Confidence now looks shaky with what’s in front of him in my humble view. As soon as our back line is asked questions of, they’re found wanting .

Defence Not good enough !

Our two first choice CB ‘s CANT HEADER . So Ok now some of you lot will point to the goal we scored . Hallelujah, a defender scored a goal. The point is our defence are powder puff. Cheltenhams defender were better than ours all afternoon. Quicker, decisive, committed, direct.

Another CB is needed to partner Burgess… in my view.

STRIKER:

Ladapo flatters to deceive in my humble view. The ball doesn’t “ stick” to him. Chaplin and Harness had nothing to feed off for most of the game today so we’re ineffective.

Ladapo has sod all pace and never truly closes down their GK or any defender on the ball. He gets goals in pairs it seems , then did all in between. I’d hardly say he leads the line.

Ok guys . That’s my take on in feel free to pound me into the ground and down arrow at your leisure. This is how I honestly see it .

Unfortunately I hear we now have significant long term injuries. So I’d our season about to unravel now? I bloody hope not. But until we can finish our chances and defend properly when they are called upon to do so, games like today will continue to happen.

We GAVE them their point.

But we sacrifice being good at defending as they bring the ball out well.....

Can't see why it's difficult to have one ball playing cb and one actual defender though.. but that opinion gets shut down

Something has to give. It just does not work. The weakness is there. Its been obvious and it needs fixing.

Without that weakness, we win the game 1-0. That's why it's so important to fix it.

They had a long way to go from the moment the ball was won on the right and goalkeeper’s looking shaky due to the back four normally is seen from crosses - not a simple shot to the near post.

I think we need Burgess in ahead of either Woolfenden or Edmundson. The other is fine because Burgess will be the defender staying back and making the clearing plays. Woolfenden and Edmundson are fine as individuals but together a luxury we cannot afford at this level.

ETA - Ladapo’s strength at Rotherham came to the fore when playing in the two, so why did we sign him if we wanted to play with one up top?

Let's be honest, if we actually could finish/score, we could have mark fish at the back, we'd still win games......

Yes we can be a bit dodgy at the back, but I don't see it as a massive problem.

I don’t think we need a CB we have 5 very very good ones at this level, very harsh to criticise Ladapo, Harness and Chaplin are not doing what they are in the side for, they haven’t scored in weeks.

I think we should consider changing the formation at times, we create little centrally and lots from wide positions, means our 10s are ineffective on days like today. I would switch to 2 up top or and extra creative mid for a 10 on days like today.

Edit this was meant for the OP

Does it get shouted down? I can’t say I remember seeing you or anyone make a case or it being shouted down. But whatever, yes I don’t see what’s wrong with a good old fashioned stopper. Even if it’s only against certain teams.

I’m not convinced we’ve got a problem though. We’re not shipping many even if the goals we give away are often soft. You’d think we could train in a bit of ‘over my dead body’ attitude into the players we have. That’s all that’s missing - the real commitment to shut the oppo out and if you don’t win the first challenge, make sure we win the second ball.

I agree - I'd like to see us try different things rather than stick to the same shape and try the same approach over and over, expecting it to suddenly work.

I would also have liked to have seen Edwards and Celina as 10s behind Ladapo, now that would have been tasty.

Why have defenders who play the ball out well if they can't actually defend when they need to?

You've not seen people saying no need to change anything as the way we do things has us 2nd and its worked all season and it's the reason we are where we are because the defenders are able to play with the ball at their feet.

It's been the number one reply to anyone who dare say we need to change the defence partnership.

When push comes to shove , 1 mistake should not have cost us 2pts today..... get a 2nd goal (Harness ?? , how did he not put that away) and we'd have scored 5....its our mental attitude that is too fragile... we still have it in our heads that if things can go wrong ,they will..... and that goes for us fans too!
