Spain for all their possession 21:07 - Dec 1 with 1442 views | Chrisd | during that last 15-20mins, they really didn’t trouble Japan’s keeper one bit. A criticism of us at times this season.

Let’s hope not, but it did remind me of us at times this season. It’s ok having the possession, but do something with it, passing it about in front of their two defensive lines isn’t going to hurt them. Thought that was poor by Spain to be quite honest.

I just don’t think the Spanish have got another option to go to with their style of play. Let’s be fair, there’s no guarantee that Spain will beat Morocco in the next round, I bet Morocco will fancy their chances against them.

Surprised he took morata and Gavi off so early. Seems to have favourites like olmo who’s workmanlike more than anything but short of ability like some of the others. Yes Morocco will certainly have a shout, not sure they’re quite so rapid on the break as Japan though.

That's what's being said here, not so much about Morocco but if they won that they believe it's an easier side of the draw. Costa Rica getting their second caused a meltdown for about 10 minutes, the fear that came across on tv was palpable.

Was thinking the same. Pleasing on the eye but a lack, at times, of genuine threat. If Fleetwood do a Japan on us tomorrow, the 63 away fans better clean up after themselves.

Because out of the two teams Germany seem the weaker side, compared to Japan who look a very decent one. [Post edited 1 Dec 2022 21:45]

Perhaps it is only the English that find Germany being knocked out amusing. And, yes, to be fair on Japan, they deserve to have won the group. Beating Germany and Spain is no mean feat. How did they lose to Costa Rica, though ... and Spain beat them 7-0?

Yes they only realised it with probably 15-20 left and may have stepped it up if Costa Rica had drawn level, but not convinced they’d have scored anyway. Not so hard to believe when you remember we threw the last group game v Belgium 4 years ago to do the same thing and get the weaker side of the draw when there were probably 5 or 6 teams better than us in the other half.

What it does show, is the countries that have less historical footballing pedigree are closing the gap. Underestimate those sides at your peril. [Post edited 1 Dec 2022 22:25]

I suspect the Netherlands, as their biggest rival, will find it even funnier. Tbh, laughing at Germany having a tough time is really a mark of respect. Look at what they’ve won compared to England? But it’s only football. But tonight who cares, it’s amusing.

Wouldn't it be great to see a Japan or Morocco win the WC? Won't happen of course, but it would be preferable to the usual teams winning it.
