Set Piece Turnaround 11:42 - Feb 19 with 1339 views | SheffordBlue | 2 more set piece goals yesterday. With 17 we've scored more SP goals than anyone else. One more and we've doubled the tally from last season. Quite the turnaround. A mixture of good coaching with some well worked routines coupled with Davis ability to cross well.

In fact, struggling to remember when we’ve found Burgess or another defender at the back post like we did for the 4th. Maybe he and the others are normally the decoys to allow others like Chaplin and Burns to get on the end of things?

Set Piece Turnaround on 12:37 - Feb 19 with 1232 views | Illinoisblue | For the people who compile stats on set pieces, what are the ‘rules’ on what constitutes a set piece goal from a corner? Our second goal yesterday, the corner is taken short and there are two or three touches before the ball is crossed in for the goal. That to me is quite rightly scoring from a set piece . What if the play had broken down and there had been an additional four or five touches before scoring… does that count?

Opta say Set Piece goals/attempts are those where the ball starts from a dead ball situation such as a corner, a free kick, a penalty or a Throw-in and results in a shot before the phase of play has broken down into open play. The exact point at which it becomes open play is usually clear but set pieces and corners which are cleared and then the ball is put straight back into the penalty area are still deemed to be part of the set play as the defending team is still positioned to deal with the set play. This rule includes the free kicks, corners, throw ins and penalties.

Set Piece Turnaround on 13:50 - Feb 19 with 1071 views | bournemouthblue | Does that suggest we're not scoring as many or are as effective in open play as we probably should be or am I reading a bit too much in it? Obviously you have to force pressure from open play to earn those set pieces as well

It’s called incremental progress! Which is happening across the squad, systemâ on 13:55 - Feb 19 with 1058 views | unstableblue | … club and ground As long as we can see progress… and I think all fans are rightly focussed on our speed of transition and mixing up our routes to goal at present… then questioning the manager and project is a little premature??

We have scored a lot more goals than in the equivalent matches last season - I think to the degree that we are scoring more from open play as well as the extra set piece goals.

If you split the fixtures so far in half there's an interesting tale: First 16: Open Play - 24 Set Play - 6 Second 16: Open Play - 16 Set Play - 13 It's a bit like being really good at set pieces is a Plan B against some team........

It might suggest teams have learnt how to nullify us in open play, in part sitting deep and stopping us pass through them We have a tougher away run in but least those teams will try and play against us

Broadhead and Clarke's more direct approach will hopefully help breakdown those teams that sit deep. Will be good to see those Open Play goals come back a bit more.

Judging by Broadheads fantastic free kick last week, we should be running at pace straight at the defender. Free kick outside the box every time. Boom .!!

There have been a number of times that Aluko/Edwards have been on the edge of the box and not taken their man on - those two and Broadhead should be worth a few more penalties if they carry it into the box
