Our second goal today! That’s why I pay to go to Portman Road 22:39 - Mar 4 with 2776 viewsunstableblue

And it also why I’m backing the recruitment policy

Clarke is still a long way from the finished article… still a little error strewn… but man that lift to get past his man and then the pass through to Burns… superb

And a great run and cut back for Burns… opposition pulled all over the place

And a crisp finish from another purchase whos only going to get better

What a great season this is

I’ve seen us play at PR 6 times in 2023.

We’ve scored 19 goals.

What a season indeed!

Chapmans pass for the third was worth it for me pure class

Clarke adds another dimension to the team. JD is a great defender but often came up short in the 2nd half of the pitch.

What a couple of players to have in that position though.

We are slowly building a very strong squad, whether we go up or not this season, one more transfer window and this squad should be very very good

Poll: Mick in or out? (not a dig at Mick just want to see the overall opinion on here)

If we don’t go up this season I don’t see much hope they keep the squad together.

Completely disagree, respectfully I think you’re way off the mark

The squad is in build mode, with long term contracts and frankly it’s only just nearing completion

Who do you think is going to leave? The club don’t need to sell and I think players are bought into the project - even if promotion is next season (which would be hugely disappointing of course)

I actually see the summer as a chance to slim down the squad, bring another set of younger players closer to the first team (Baggot, El Miz) and strengthen in a couple of places.

Our saleable assets are Davis, Wolfenden, Edmundson, Clarke, Humphreys, Broadhead, Chaplin and maybe Burns (but he’s getting on)

Just don’t see it

I thought yesterday we were back to playing the really high class football that we played earlier in the season, against opponents who were no pushover. It's a joy to watch.

Mick Mills was saying the same after the match, that we were back our start of the season pomp!

BUT! Burton were trying to give us a game, and pushed us higher up the pitch. Allowing moments for Burns and Ladapo to get behind them and for us to break through.

Where we’ve been struggling is the insane ‘low block’ we’re getting from other teams… including unexpectedly Bristol Rovers

Yesterday was terrific to watch , slick , quick , attacking football , gone are the days of slow build up and backwards passing . Burton just couldn't cope with it .

All the recent additions have added so much to the team , great credit to the recruitment process .

The whole team were at it yesterday , but special mention to Chaplin , Luongo , Broadhead , Morsy and Freddie .

Luongo looks like the piece of the jigsaw we needed to take us up another level

That's true, but hopefully we've just got a bit more guile now with people like Broadhead and Luongo.

Think we’re agreeing here.

Our sellable assets you list below, of which I agree and would add Walton and Morsy too are 6/7 regular starters.

I think all of those would be candidates to leave in the summer. And bringing in youngsters to replace outgoing senior players is great but it still means departures. Even if 3/4 of them leave that’s not exactly keeping the squad together.

Long contracts are there I imagine to protect the players value, not because you assume Woolfy or whoever will still be playing for us in 3/4 years time.

Hopefully I’m wrong - we are building a good squad.

There was a good discussion on this on the Kings of Anglia podcast last week. Some of the points Stuartt Watson made were:

- We're already paying Championship level wages for many of our top players and going elsewhere for extra money is unlikely to be a big issue
- Many of the players are totally bought into the project and while they'd be disappointed if they didn't go up many would want to stay another season to see it out
- Not many clubs in the Championship where they'd play in front of the same crowds.

General view was that while we might get some good offers and choose to sell we're unlikely to get many players agitating for a move away if they don't go up

It’s interesting how much doom mongering on after Bristol Rovers away

And indeed we had the classic line ‘failure to get automatic promotion will be the greatest failure in the clubs history’ (sic?)

But I think to your point McKenna is still getting the squad and team right… I think he inherited Evans, and has brought Ball in, but I don’t think either bring the next level that Luongo brings

Luongo is a game changer, different level. Question is can he do a job next season. I think McKenna knows that Humphreys will get there, but he’s still not ready or physical enough. I still have a hope El Miz will come back and blow McKennas socks off in pre-season.

It’s such a key role beside Morsy and to find Morsy back-up

We don’t need to sell, we want to get promotion, players won’t be agitating to leave

I do think there is a clear out of the likes of KVY, Harper, and a few others needed

So the big question is house this will all work out at Bolton next Saturday. They will not play a low block (I’m still not sure I understand what one of those is, but hey ho!) so maybe we’ve got a good chance against them.

The formation diagram in this article sums up a low block and what Town have faced in a lot of games this season

Challenge with Bolton is yes they will play further up the field but they also carry a real threat… unlike Burton
