America and mass shootings 18:18 - Apr 10 with 834 viewsnoggin

20200 people lost their lives in mass shootings in 2022, according to Sky News. Surely that is not correct.

It’s approx 20k gun deaths total for 2022 (excluding suicide by gun). Mass shooting is defined as a shooting where 4 or more people are shot. So you are right in that Sky have their numbers wrong.

My son’s school had their annual active shooter drill this morning. What a facking country.

It isn't.

On the basis that even Wikipedia is more reliable than sky, there were 762 deaths (including the shooters) and 2,902 woundings in 695 incidents.

Mrs Factual used to have to do lockdown drills - shooter on base - at a US military facility in the UK where she worked.

And the holiday months - June to September - are when the most incidents take place. Perhaps the locals don't like visitors.

The media usually focus on Mass shootings for some reason instead of overall gun deaths / homicide rates.

But not at school. It seems more reasonable in a military setting that this might happen regardless of which country the base is in.

Probably because shooting deaths are so common there, you can only report so many, I'd imagine.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Disturbing to see two black legislators in Tennessee expelled from the legislature for leading protests for stricter gun control following a mass shooting, when the white legislator who did the same was not expelled.

Yes unfortunately so and I get reporting on so many at a national level maybe but it's actual data isn't it. Not sure why mass shootings should be more a topic than total homicides but then the politics comes into it from both sides unfortunately. Gun control v inner city policing instead of worrying about actually saving lives and preventing both.
