Hopefully that's Hirsts last sub appearance 22:53 - Apr 18 with 1698 viewsBuffaloBill

No slight on Freddie but they are not in the same sphere (2 goals sat i realise) Hopefully a nice little break he has before 2 massive games.

Let's start our strongest line up from now in please KM

It's not a bad option to have. But you could really tell that chappers and broady were missing hirst. The one touch flicks by chappers to freddie never came off as he just wasn't expecting the passes.

It's odd, because Freddie has been fantastic for us for the most of the season, but I can't help but feel we wouldn't be in the top two hunt if he'd be our number one striker for the run in. Especially considering tonight's performance.

It's the harness effect

Good solid league 1 players. But not that extra level.

Freddie always been a partner in a pair. He's come on massively under KM to that lone role.. but you can tell its just not natural to him. Hes almost a yard off all the quick balls our 10s put into him.

I would agree fully with OP. The front line was far too static in first half snd thst chemistry just wasn’t there. Hirst has to start all the remaining games for us to be effective I feel. It’s about player combinations and the chemistry amongst them.

Agree on Hirst offering a bit more. He's just a bit sharper in his mobility and thinking.

We did look a bit leggy though tonight. That might have been a lot to do with how Vale played it. I just can't see us getting through the workload now without some changes.

Yep often on his heels when Broady and Chaplin try the clever quick passes.

The only Muff in Town.

Much more of a threat corners and set pieces . Must say i found Freddy starting just a little odd cant see why KM did that TBH . Like Bristol Rovers away i was amazed he started Harness and Aluco as his No 10's . OK OK yes he knows better that me and is doing a tremendous job .

Atleast KMc knows now who to start!

Hurst is far more physical and can handle the pressure!

Once the defenders have been bullied- let Freddy loose!

Ladapo was dealt a tough hand tonight really given they had about 38 players at the back. Ultimately we can analyse it until the cows come home but Hirst’s just a better footballer, looks a more natural centre forward and ideal for our system. That’s what it comes down to ultimately. I expect he’ll come back in on Saturday.

because it was 2 games in 4 days, and Freddy and Hirst need to share the workload at the moment, its as simple as that I think.

Port Vale were making it very difficult for Freddy to find any space to play, they were climbing all over him anytime the ball was sent his way, it was a tough night for any player in that role, Im not sure Hirst would have done any better or been that different.

I think Freddie offers more when there's space to run in to or balls over the top. It was a difficult night for him being constantly marked, outnumbered or back to goal. Saying all that, I'd still start with Hirst.

Hirst puts more pressure on the oppositions defence and does not stop running, feel more confident with him starting

To be fair to Freddie I don't think Hirst would fair better in that first half. PV were starving us of space, loads of times Burgess and Wolf found themselves playing pass the ball sidewides only a few yards from PV'S 18 yard box. You could see their aim was to force us to play the ball wide and then quickly close us down and it worked.

It really required some direct dribbling towards goal to open them up. Broadhead nearly did it in the first half, although the tackle to stop him pulling the trigger was brilliant.
Town were also a bit slow with passing which didn't help, plus a few sloppy passes but that's what pressure does.
