Fringe players - not under KMac! 21:01 - Apr 30 with 2262 views | jasondozzell | We haven't really got any have we?! The whole squad has contributed so much. One of the best examples of McKenna's management is the way he's kept everyone feeling involved and important. Promotion is because of them as much as the brilliant first eleven that's emerged over last few months I loved seeing Greg Leigh and KVY embracing and looking so happy in the dressing room celebrations. So many players like that who haven't played that much but have worked so hard and done brilliantly when called upon. Harness and his goals early on, the winner at Burton in a game we'd have lost before, Humphreys coming in and doing such a good job in his first proper season, Jackson bombing down wing in Burns position, his goal against Wed, Greg Leigh just being brilliant, Aluko a joy to watch, Keogh settling us against Morecambe at home during that difficult spell.... Leigh coming in at Derby for Leif and just immediately turning in a great performance says it all. [Post edited 30 Apr 2023 21:20]

Guess the obvious one is Hladky, bits and pieces in the stuffed crust trophy but obviously played very little. Was surprised he came on yesterday tbh. Keogh hasn’t played an awful lot and Camara has never got going due to the injury. As you say though most have played some part throughout the season.

McKenna continually references the part people like Hladky have played in training, pushing others to keep their performances up, keeping the energy high. I think he was brought on yesterday so he has an appearance and gets a medal (if they get one) - it was his first league minutes.

Fringe players - not under KMac! on 21:17 - Apr 30 with 2137 views | Nutkins_Return | We will have to be fairly ruthless when it comes to trimming the squad for the championship purely because of the squad rules HOWEVER as the OP says everyone of those players who does move on can hold their heads up high with pride for their involvement and contribution. We won't forget their efforts and they have all been brilliant. Hopefully they go on to get more game time and enjoy more success wherever they go. They will have improved and learnt a lot under this management and have tons to offer!

Ha ha - you're right about Hirsty! Bowl cut almost... See what you mean about Hladky. Kmac was saying though something about how well he trains and the standard of him and Nick Hayes in training and how important that is. Keogh heading towards full time coaching but he really did settle us down after the Oxford fog nightmare in that Morecambe fog game. Hopefully we'll get to see Camara next season! Exciting signing at the time.
Fringe players - not under KMac! on 21:22 - Apr 30 with 2079 views | BigCommon | Humphreys, KVY, Keogh, Aluko, and 3rd 4th choice keepers are fringe players imo.And would only be called upon in emergencies or very low key games, if everyone is fit.... The rest are either first team regulars, ie first 11 plus regular bench.. Or squad players like Leigh, Jackson, Edwards, For ecample.... That's how I see it..
Fringe players - not under KMac! on 21:33 - Apr 30 with 2016 views | tetchris | We will need to strengthen for the Championship and that’s means some will have to leave. Jackson, Aluko, Harper, El Mizouni, KVY, Adahme, Piggott, and Penney will probably leave.

Personally I think it’s a minimum expectation to remain entirely committed to training when you’re out of a side. Think it’s good that we clearly have a squad who do that, I’m sure naturally some are gutted not to play more but they seemingly remain professional and engaged. I imagine they would be moved on pretty sharpish if those standards dropped. Didn’t think about the trophy thing, makes a lot of sense.

Of those, only Jackson, Aluko and KVY are members of the current squad. I think Jackson will probably stay, with Aluko coaching-bound and El Mizouni quite possibly coming back in. Apart from the last of those, all the seniors out on loan will probably depart. With Clarke and Donacien for the right side of defence, KVY is probably too far down the pecking order now. Tho we won't actually need to shed many players, the squad size rules are not so different (25 players excluding U21s not on loan, instead of 22 excluding all U21s and goalkeepers).

I can see Jackson staying, too... He was useful in the Rotherham and Burnley games.. We may find ourselves playing a bit more on the counter next season Especially away from home. In fact, some of the tougher away games during our run in, have seen us concede a bit more possession, and mix it up with some longer passing, too.

Assuming the five subs rule continues, he will be good to bring on wide right for the last 10 to 30 minutes of games, plus he can defend quite well.

Fringe players - not under KMac! on 06:43 - May 1 with 1445 views | PioneerBlue | The coaching and playing squad did great work with contracts to financially motivate and non financial means to keep fringe people involved day to day. It has shown to be a key to success, being able to have high quality back up for rotation and critical is training numbers, the thing we don’t see. There are decisions to be made about the make up and back up. Not all have to leave but balance of midfield and age of some fringe players (young and old) means there are opportunities to improve squad. Whilst the likes of Jackson, Edwards, KVY have done jobs in L1, will they really ensure the first XI sees no material weaknesses if brought on as subs in the Championship? I don’t know, that’s for KMcK to work through! All we know if not everyone makes the transition. These are players where I feel there could be a question to answer, as I said I’m not proposing they all have to leave: Camara In current 22 Evo In current 22 Jackson In current 22 KVY In current 22 Keogh In current 22 Edwards In current 22 Aluko In current 22 Luongo In current 22 TJJ Would count towards 22 Humph not counted in 22 Hladky will he want football now? El Miz remain on loan? Ahadme remain on loan? Harper Piggot Penny
