Chaplin record Champ / League One 16:14 - Jun 12 with 1618 views | unstableblue | Big vote of confidence from the club in Chaplin to be effective in the Championship. And he's played a lot of games at that level, with some success... he's improved as a player no doubt. Just hope Hirst signs, which I expect he will. Barnsley Championship 19/20 - 44 apps - 11 goals - 1 Championship player of the month, 1 hattrick 20/21 - 34 apps - 4 goals - Barnsley make Championship play-offs Ipswich League One 21/22 - 39 apps - 9 goals 22/23 - 45 apps - 26 goals Championship 23/24 - ?????

It was very much a change in direction in the type of player they wanted and he was surplus to requirements.. Reading between the lines I think he liked the fans but was less than impressed with the club.. he repeated that it wasn't really a step down to League One as Ipswich were such a larger club. Think Barnsley's play-off ticket update last season really emphasised that! We'd have easily matched Sheff Weds ticket demand

Chaplin record Champ / League One on 17:08 - Jun 12 with 1372 views | Herbivore | Not sure he'll manage 26 this season but I wouldn't be surprised if he got 15-20. He's underrated in terms of his ability to create for others as well. Plays some lovely passes in that inside right channel to both set up the forwards and to put the overlapping right sided player in behind. He's sometimes a little sloppy and tries to use the ball almost too quickly but he's such a good player overall. Love me a bit of Chappers.

Chaplin record Champ / League One on 17:30 - Jun 12 with 1282 views | the_toff | I'm not being critical of your post but I doubt the club give much thought to his goals return at a different club a few years back when it's a player that's 'in the building' already. They have the luxury of seeing him day in day out in training and in games and will have a good idea of his appropriateness to step up to a higher level in a system we want to play. He's a natural finisher and I think to a degree he can score at any level. A bit like Marcus Stewart could, good finishers are hard to find and if he gets chances he'll take them. If he plays regularly he'll score double figures in the Championship. It's really just a 2 year extension to the deal of a 26 year old that's very low risk. If he was phased out this season (I can't see it) then I'm sure there would be plenty of suitors.
Chaplin record Champ / League One on 17:43 - Jun 12 with 1231 views | BigCommon | Think the key thing, as with all players, is to look what they've done whilst working with KM... Any kind of stats, pre KM, are largely irrelevant. Sidenote, key stats will also include, fitness, workrate, yards covered per game, etc.. Chappers workrate and attitude on and off the pitch are exemplary . Imo.

I think we'll get Hirst, and if not another striker of quality, to challenge with Ladapo. And I'd see Chaplin moving into more of a supplier as well as finishing a few. I don't think he'll get some of the space he found, often he found most of it through good movement, but defence he'll be up against will be a higher level.
