Edit - You’ll have to click on the original Sky Sports tweet from 18 months ago to get the replies. Plenty of their fans backtracking now today in reply to my tweet. [Post edited 23 Aug 2023 22:44]

Man United fans views when McKenna left for us.. on 23:24 - Aug 23 with 2752 views | MattinLondon | Being fair, when KM joined us I did click onto a Man United forum and they were rather complimentary towards us as well as towards KM. Many felt that he was simply one of the fall guys. If I remember correctly they did think that we would try and get a few of their young players on loan - which we didn’t.

Fair play. 99% of the comments under that tweet were definitely negative about KMac though which just makes our rise through the leagues even sweeter.

I thought we were insane in giving the keys to a guy who had no experience of running a club like Ipswich, let alone in a toxic scenario with an increasingly despondent fanbase as we were during Cook. Charlton away was tragic that season. But I was wrong, he's turned it around, he's made a few mistakes as a younger manager would, but he does appear to learn from them, a quality not seen in Cook, Lambert, Hurst...

It carried a risk, as recruiting anyone in any walk of life does. But at the time I was just relieved it wasn’t a tired old retread or a journeyman like Neil Harris. I didn’t find him the least bit smarmy either. That Charlton away game was awful. I think John McGreal deserves a lot of credit for holding things together after Cook was booted out.

Yeah same. He came from the Ollie Gunnar Solksjaer coaching set up under which Man Utd didnt do great so I wasnt optimistic as it was a bit of an unknown how he'd do. Delighted to say though I now have 100% faith in him. He's done great.

Some would say qualifying for the Chumps League was quite good. It was hardly the manager’s or McKenna’s fault that manure signed Ronaldo to undo all the good work.

It was obvious Cook was gone as soon as McGreal walked in, he was a contingency plan and fortunately it was only for that interim period. I think Matt Gill is still our most statistically successful interim manager since the club started, and I think 2021 saw us managed by the most managers in our history with Lambert, Gill, Cool, McGreal and McKenna all running the side in the same year. Interesting fact, we now have had three managers Mogga, Magic and McGreal who all played under George Burley. I think the only other manager to have as many of their former players run the team is Sir Bobby, as John Wark, George Burley and Bryan Klug all played under Robson.
