Are we set to see two of our proudest records ended, and be happy about it? 14:41 - Jun 7 with 2182 views | Europablue | The first record being that we are the only club to provide a major cup winning manager to England. The second being that we have never lost a home game in Europe.

Not imminently, but that appears to be the trajectory.

But then it would simply change to: The first record being that we are the only club to provide a World Cup winning manager to England.

Our recent trajectory suggests extending it rather than losing it.

I might be clouded with optimism, but I think Southgate might have actually improved as a manager. The players he left out seem to suggest that he has grasped the squad balance much better and I saw a video on England tactics that show that we are looking like we are playing more positive stuff. I didn't rate Southgate as a tactician just because he doesn't have the killer instinct and needs to learn from KM about being brave and I think he focused too much on black lives matter stuff or just let himself get too distracted by it when he really should have concentrated more energy on fixing his tactical deficiencies. I also think that the players we have available to us are so good that we could win despite Southgate's performance.

Also its very fine lines isn't it? Not saying he's a top class manager by any stretch of the imagination but he was a penalty shootout away from winning us the last Euros. At the last world cup we were unlucky against France, we dominated large periods of that game and a win would've seen us into a semi against Morocco. World cup prior lost in extra time in the Semis. I get the argument about generally not being able to beat the top sides when we face them, but its very small margins and in tournament knockout football you only get 1 shot at it every 2 years. There's a lot of other very good sides out there and only 1 can win. We could certainly win Euro 2024, it wouldn't surprise me at all, but it wouldn't surprise me if France, Germany, Italy, Spain or Portugal did either, and only 1 (or perhaps none of those) will. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We've been ranked inside top 5 of the world since October 2018 - 68 months continously when before that we'd been ranked in the top 5 18 months over the previous 23 years. In club football it would be all about 'trust the process' and you get there eventually but international football you are judged on the tournaments solely. Look at us compared to Italy 2018 WC - Lost in semi final 2020 EC - Lost in final 2022 WC - Lost in Quarter Final vs 2018 WC - Did Not Qualify 2020 EC - Winners 2022 WC - Did Not Qualify What would people prefer? We go into this tournament as joint/2nd favourites - but that is giving us about a 24% chance of winning it.....so it's 3x more likely we don't win it.....but not winning it will likely be seen as a failure - fine margins

Know how many knock out ties England have won outside England in the entire history of the Euros? 1 And believe it or not England have had much better teams in the past.

His worst ever tournament finish is equal or better than any England manager’s best ever tournament finish other than Ramsey, Robson or Venables.

‘he focused too much on black lives matter stuff or just let himself get too distracted by it’ Not overly surprised you thought that, can’t believe you subsequently farted it into print.
