Wonder what PL away fans will make of their Portman road visits? 16:00 - Aug 16 with 1475 viewsMatt_Netherlands

Some will have been here before of course, but for some it will be a first time to Ipswich.

What do you reckon they’ll make of a visit here? I’m guessing things along the lines of

“Awful to get to - had to change trains three times and get a coach replacement”
“Proper old school stadium but had a gigantic pillar in my way”
“Much better than the soul less bowls of some stadiums that size”
“Town is a bit of a dive, found the harbour though which was quite nice”
“Home fans were alright, couldn’t work out why they all bow when they get a corner though”
“Tried going for a night out after the game. Lasted all of ten minutes.”

With what they're used to, and assuming that the away facilities are the same (or worse) as in the home end of the Cobbold, I can see there being a lot of comments about the stand being absolutely awful. Especially given what they'll be used to for the majority of away days.

Yeah, they're in a 50 year old stand. I don't expect many positive comments about the facilities. I reckon a few will mention what a cracking view they've got if they are near the half way line though.

I can see it being fairly balanced:

Good view
Traditional stadium
Decent atmosphere
Crap stand

Why would it be awful. They will get a good view of the pitch, very few obstructed views.
More space per seat than other parts of the ground (especially the west stand).
Loads of atmosphere.
Friendly people. (Ask Maidstone)
Admittedly they might have to queue for the bog at halftime and '70's brutalism is not for everybody but concrete can be painted and brightened up.

Looking forward to tomorrow.
It's here ...... !
Aaaaahhhhhhhh What me excited ?

Don't some of the away fans have safe standing?
That's sort of new isn't it?
I think some of them might be impressed with that.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Maybe some fans - but without doubt a lot of genuine fans will come who love a proper football ground embedded in the heart of a community rather than a modern day bowl with little atmosphere 10 miles away from anywhere.
