Playing surface 09:27 - Aug 18 with 1378 viewscatch74

Had to work and and watch snippets yesterday, not ideal.
However - did I hear commentary saying the pitch wasn’t helping the Liverpool game during the first half? Looked pretty decent to me!

The commentary team were saying it was playing slowly, they weren't commenting on the quality of the pitch. It was a dry warm day and I'm not sure about Ipswich (as I live in the midlands) but on the whole the weather has been rather dry for a while now. I'd imagine this means the pitch would dry out quite quickly, regardless of copious amount of water being sprayed on it before the game.

It was just another moronic bit of commentary from the genius that is Jermaine Jenas.

The pitch was perfect.

It was watered as usual 10 minutes before kickoff and looked good enough to eat.

Funny that liverpools passing was much quicker second half, I was in the bar at half time so could have missed us changing the pitch

You could have played bowls on it. It was perfect. If it plays a little different to Liverpool’s so what? It’s not their pitch. Jeez, they should have a look at pitches from the good ole days. Even the best (ours) looked like a ploughed field by the time Santa loaded up his sleigh.

Not wanting to agree with the idiot commentary team but there was a few examples for both sides where the ball was passed slower than you'd expect
They didn't moan about the standard/ quality of the pitch but just it was running slow. I assume they rewatered it again at HT so it would be quicker 2nd half

it was watered as normal, but maybe not as much time spent on it, because of alll the Prem League stuff that goes on and around the pitch, and with all the tv crews occupying the near touchline, it looked like the water pressure was turned down, meaning less water/coverage across the whole pitch. plus a hot humid day I think the water would have evaporated quickly anyway.

I did notice a couple of times balls that for sure would have gone out for throw ins last season, stayed in, the ball just seemed to hold up along touchlines more, though some of that is they chased balls Championship teams just wouldnt bother with, and there were a couple of passes that were just a fraction not hard enough, but that was also partly down to players imo.

it wasnt like players were looking confused as to why their pinpoint accurate passes, just ask Trent Alexander, werent getting to the intended spots, or they couldnt trust the surface.

it was just marginally slower than normal due to the conditions.
