It's not a criticism but it felt like after every substitution yesterday, we lost further impetus in the game, none more so than when Delap went off.
A little bit like our blip last January, when we don't have that focal physical point up top, the 10's struggle to impact the game and our effectiveness definitely drops.
But for that first 45 minutes, he was a monster. His link-up play will improve but to be that effective against VVD & Quansah is a really promising sign moving forward.
You feel like when Hirst is fit and we get one more in, we will have three all-round strikers who can maintain that physical output throughout the 90.
Looks like £15M very well spent IMO

I like the cut of his jib. Works really hard, made some really good runs ‘off the shoulder’ and in the channels, notably that run down the left. Has really good pace, physically fit and strong. A little loose in possession at times but that doesn’t worry me at all. Stylistically very similar to Hirst who we’ve never had an alternative to. Like Hirst, Delap’s movement looks so good when you watch him up close. They’re both such natural footballers, I’ve always thought is either nature or learned from a young age. If you’re not showing it by 14 you never will, and their schooling suggests they both were. They’ve got such a ‘footballing brain’ in the runs they make and centre forward play which we’ve not seen in so long as Town fans. I remember seeing it in Hirst about 3 minutes in to his debut. Maybe the fact they’re both the sons of ex premier league footballers helps.
Really like what I see in him. Need to get Hirst fit to carry some of the load though, and probably at least a couple more players in, as we’re paper thin depth wise in the final 3rd. |  | | |

Yes. You can see that he has the physicality, touch and pace to trouble defenders at any level. As we know, you don't need to be an out and out goalscorer to be the number 9 in McKenna's team. I'm sure he'll score a few too, but he's going to be a real handful and is a perfect fit for us. Only 21 too! |  |
