I’m already looking past City (A) to Fulham (H) 11:29 - Aug 20 with 1185 viewsMatt_Netherlands

I don’t buy all of the free hit malarkey, but let’s face it nobody is expecting a result from this weekend.

Fulham at home on the other hand will give us a much better read of where we are at. You’d also imagine by that point Phillips or Cajuste will be starting and more up to speed, and we should have another few bodies in the door.

I don’t think a match three games into the season can be must win…. But these are the games we really have to pick points up in if we want to stay up.

This is the thing. We need to do everything right on Saturday and use it to hone our readiness for the rest of the season. If we somehow got a result there, it is a bonus but it is all about performance and being ready for Fulham. I am sure Man City did slip up sometimes last season and will do again this one. We can hope it is against us but I certainly won't expect it to be. I would certainly take a Maidstone-style result against the run of play.

For me, it's keeping heads and confidence up if/when we lose on Saturday.

I'd imagine it won't be a problem for this group given the togetherness and journey they've been on, but there will be outside noise questioning our right to be here etc.

I think like any season, we are looking at October to start to see how we are settling and I can only see us getting stronger. It's keeping the confidence of the players up and the fans understanding it's going to be a slow(ish) journey for us.

I had us down to have 1 pt from our first 3 games and I still stand by that.

I also think we'll have 5 pts after 5 games (draw with Brighton and win at Southampton).

1pt per game average all season gives us a real chance of staying up IMO.

Visions of Leeds away last season, but who knows, stranger things have happened.

Lose 2, win 2 and we'd be closer to a European place than the drop zone...

When Pep is in his late eighties enjoying the view from his retirement home in Cadaqués while supping a glass of cava with his mates. One of them is sure to ask him if there were any moments in his long footballing career which he regrets and he will say:

"Això és fàcil. El meu equip del Manchester City de la temporada 2024/25 va tenir la millor oportunitat de qualsevol equip d'infligir l'única derrota consecutiva a la lliga contra el "Mister" més gran de tots els temps, però vaig caure. Sovint m'assec aquí, mirant el mar i em pregunto si aquell va ser el moment en què em vaig destinar a convertir-me en un dels subcampions de la vida."
