Apologies if it’s been covered, but given we are firmly on his radar now, it does make you think a bit about his role, and our engagement with him as fans and a club. More importantly though it raises some good questions about the business of scoops etc.
There is no journalistic value of reporting on transfer rumours. It is a bit of fun for football fans often verging on an unhealthy obsession. Some inside information is very valuable, for example, if we are willing to pay 30 million for a player, but we know that they will accept 20, then that information is very valuable. Sports reporters are almost always a hobby press and the only really journalistic endeavours are investigations into malpractice or financial dealings.

To me, watching the video and reading the article, there is a whiff of "Someone is more successful than me - I must drag them down". Though the Greenwood link does appear to expose the dealings of "scoopsters".

He is also accused by a Danish publication that he sells coverage for clubs:
Yeah, that was mentioned in the video posted above. Maybe it's just me but I'm not surprised at all and, when it comes to transfers, I'm amazed that anyone is trying to take the moral highground.

As is sort of touched on in the video, there has always been elements of back scratching and quid pro quo among some journalists in lots of fields, but where do you draw the line?

And different people will have different views on where the line should be drawn.
Totally get why people would wish to 'cancel' him or at least heavily dilute his influence. The article disputes the reliability of "scoopsters" in reporting on what we're most interested in too though, when my experience is that Romano's a solid source and authority on transfer news, however parasitic his journey to arriving at said news may be. No doubt his credible announcements are interspersed with marketing pieces, adverts and so on, some unethical, some immoral, but his 'here we go' posts prove correct far more often than not, even when he's verifying reports elsewhere rather than breaking the story himself. Fans' appetite for knowing transfer information before moves are concluded is unquenchable.
