I’m playing “new formations” 10:43 - Aug 21 with 1965 views

So…

Broja is a Hirst style move, link and hold it up player, so goes in the middle.

I’m thinking Delap also plays on the left, and did some good work out there on Sat — can’t see him not starting. Omari has to start, so either behind Broja, or on the right (think he’s better on the right myself).

This means one of Burns or Morsy drops from the regular starting lineup. Burns plays in our trad 4-2-3-1/3-2-4-1, but the two central midfielders are presumably Cajuste and Phillips, so Morsy drops out.

Alternative is 4-3-3, with Morsy in midfield as well. Omari and Delap come inside to form the midfield “box”.

There are 3-4-3 or even 5-3-2 options. KM could switch, but he tends to stick with more or less the same formation. Or could just be lots of rotation.

Broja replaces Burns and Delap drops to the right.

Phillips or Cajuste come in for Mass.

No way does Morsy get dropped yet.

The biggest thing is that there will be a starting and a finishing team with very little drop in quality between the two. We missed that on Saturday and it showed.

Personally not convinced we'll see a major move away from what he's done before at this stage and I think we'd have seen a lot more experimentation around this in preseason if he was going to do it.

He's mentioned a few times that he talks more about roles and responsibilities than formations. Even the OGC Nice game that lots of people were talking about us going to a back 3 the shape in most phases of play was very similar to what we usually see - they were just attacking with lots of bodies forward which pushed our RW back as he tracked his man. Any time we set up to go again it was back to usual!

Looks right to me….although I can foresee a situation, if playing well that Delap does the full 90.

I think we can all agree Morsy will not be dropped…
