Muric / Walton / Slicker

Johnson / Tuanzebe / Clarke
Ahmedhodzic / Woolfenden
Greaves / Burgess
Davis / Townsend

Morsy / Cajuste
Phillips / Luongo / Taylor

Clark / Broadhead / Harness
Szmodics / Chaplin
Hutchison / Burns

Broja / Delap / Hirst / Al Hamadi

That's 28 players if we get Clark and Ahmedhodzic or like for like alternatives. Can't remember if keepers count or if any of those are under the age limit.

Edmundson you'd have to imagine will go. Humphreys is out on loan. Ladapo will no doubt be moved on. Working on the basis Al Hamadi will be kept with Hirst out depending on how McKenna sees Szmodics role, maybe loaned out in January with Hirst back.

Harness had potentially earned himself a role with Broady out but as Omari can come in there. Where does it leave Harry Clarke who could well be the third choice. Same as Jack Taylor if not seen as a player to play in the 10 role?

McKenna likes to have two for every position and there's loads of flexibility here with Hutchison able to play three roles, Delap two, Szmodics two, Johnson two etc etc but does make you wonder who might be next in line for replacing come January.

All legitimate promotion heroes but would not be shocked to see Clarke, Broadhead, Harness, Taylor and even (as much as I'd be gutted) Chaplin as being those at risk come January if we look to further improve.

Of course any of those above might come in and do incredibly well and out perform new signings but whilst the likes of Keogh, Leigh and Edwards moved on after being bit part players and then Ball and say Ladapo would have moved on in the name of progress and following seasons they were bit part players, and it will need to happen again, it'll be so hard to say goodbye to legitimate double promotion legends.

Hladky was the closest so far but was only involved for one of those seasons. Really is the time now to see which of those League One stars really can compete at the very top and clear the ownership and manager has diminishing room for sentiment.

No doubt there are some heart-breaking departures coming - but that is just as it should be. There are a few 'forever legends' in there that are going to go from nailed-on starters to being somewhat vulnerable. Chappers is the one that will break me.

This is good stuff - I think we will keep Harness around because of Broadhead injury.

Could we have same thing with Al-Hamadi staying because of injury to Hirst or would we expect other players to cover in the event that Broja or Delap pick up an injury?

Hutchinson and Delap are under the age limit so won't count towards the 25 IIRC.

Chaplin will eventually leave one day but I think people have been a little too quick to anticipate it. He hasn't been on top form for a little while but form is temporary and I am confident we will see the best of him again before too long.

Taylor is the one that intrigues me most. We chased him hard and then he just didn't seem to fit into our system very well. There is an element that we might have progressed quicker than he has as well. Maybe Luongo improved more with Taylor pushing to take his place. It feels as if Taylor needs a few things to happen for him to get a chance and if they don't he might never really get it. Time will tell.

Yeah, think we're kind of light in the 10 even with Szmodics (who can do left) and Hutch (who can do right - and left to a degree) so think Chaplin is definitely keeping his place in the squad.

Cajuste is the one i'm really interested by. Is he set to come on for Davis (LB for Sweden) or is he midfield, or....as i've stated before...does he convert similarly to Burns did?

That is totally what happened with Taylor.

I can imagine McKenna us surviving last season, Taylor eventually evolving within the system but the system evolving, finding different formations and ways to win and Taylor being a part of that.

Instead we win 9 out of 10, steamroller everyone to 96 points with Morsy and Luongo at the heart of things and barely have to change the system, especially the midfield part.

We arrive now potentially at a level that Taylor isn't ready for yet through the natural progression and improvement he'd have had over 2-3 Championship seasons.

It may well be we have to adapt the formation this season and he thrives in it, but at the moment with four ahead of him, hard to see where he now fits in.

Cajuste and Sweden was fascinating.

Not aware of any injuries but in the last six squads he seems to have started twice at CM, twice at LB and then not been in the squad on the other occasions.

He must have been injured and I just couldn't find it. Can't see how you go from starting to not in the squad to starting unless you've got a knock.

Here’s my guess at the final 25:

Muric
Walton
New 3rd choice youngster to allow Slicker out*

Tuanzebe
Johnson
H.Clarke
Ahmedzovic
Woolfenden
Burgess
Greaves
Davis
Townsend

Morsy
Luongo
Taylor
Cajuste
Phillips

Burns
Hutchinson*
Chaplin
Szmodics
Broadhead
Harness
J.Clarke

Delap
Broja
Hirst

Thus meaning Fridge, Ladapo, Al-Hamadi will depart in some way.

*U21 so does not count towards the 25.

Sounds like we're after Ahmedhodzic instead.
