Carabao cup draw... on 19:37 - Aug 28 with 1390 views | tonybied | Yeah, I still don't understand why the teams playing in Europe can't be drawn against each other can someone please explain to me why? Other than the main REAL reason, which is to better the chance of them getting further into the competition!

There's a semi-legitimate ground - Champions League and Europa League fixtures are to be played over the two midweeks specified for R3, so it wouldn't be possible for a UEL team to play a UCL team, and for them both to fulfil all of their fixtures. Absolutely no reason, though, why UCL and UEL teams can't play teams in the same competition.

I think the reason is that they will be playing one or other of the weeks in Europe. By avoiding them against each other it prevents them needing to swap which week the European fixture is on. The unimportant minor domestic cup will fit in with them. Why they couldn't have put 6 home balls and 6 away ones in and left it to complete chance rather than returning the (now warm) ball to the pot, I don't know!

The fact they want to do.the draw before a lot of teams has played is stupid in itself.
Carabao cup draw... on 11:30 - Aug 29 with 891 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Not that it matters to us anyway, but the fairest way to have done it would have been: Select the 4 teams involved in Europe that have to play in the first week and put them in one pot and the other 4 go in a second pot. Then randomly select half of the rest to go into the first week pot while the other half go into the second pot. The draw is then completed in two halves just like the rounds that have been split into north and south ones. This would have allowed the potential for the European sides to meet each other still (clearly something this process wanted to avoid).

The fairest way to do it is to leave the League Cup to the Football League. Are the likes of Liverpool interested? Well it’s a useful competition for the stiffs and that’s about it. What next? The Euro CL qualifiers get a bye to the sixth round of the FA Cup and are seeded not to play each other? How about fast tracking MC, Liverpool, MU and Chelsea straight to the semi finals, the rabble going through the rounds as normal until they win their quarter finals and receive a small paper weight each and a Toblerone for their trouble and told to shuffle off? They’d also get the dubious honour of hearing the likes of that bore Lineker telling the world how great it all is as he trousers his ill-earned dough. [Post edited 29 Aug 2024 11:58]
