Our attacking set pieces 17:15 - Oct 20 with 1038 viewscbower

We've been dreadful. The two free kicks in pretty dangerous positions were dog dirt. When was the last time we scored direct from a free kick?
Delivery from corners is ok but we simply don't get our head on enough of them for me. We seem static, crowded between 6-12 yards out and nobody genuinely attacks the ball. Greaves does look more dangerous with greater intent but ofcourse he wasn't there yesterday.
Defensively at set pieces we've been ok although for the 2nd yesterday, 3 players watching McNeill control a ball coming down with snow on it on the edge of our box was slack.

Didn't we get in a new set-piece coach this season? We've gone backwards at this point in time.

Good point. The past few seasons I was comfortable with our defending from set pieces, even under the cosh games like Blackburn away last season, we just looked strong and knew what we were doing.

Likewise, I also thought we were capable of scoring with every corner and free kick we won.

At the moment, all that confidence, strategy and skill we had has evaporated. Maybe it's just Prem class and shows how far behind we are.

Woolfenden and Burgess have never been up to much from attacking set pieces sadly. It's more likely Chaplin will score a header.

And we don't have anyone that really inspires confidence standing over a free kick in shooting distance.

We've been coached to a ridiculous standard for two years straight, but we now need some individual talent to step up and win us some points to compliment the work McKenna does in training. Apart from Delap against Villa we haven't seen anyone really offer that so far.

....on attacking set pieces.

He just jumps up and lets the ball hit his massive melon of a bonce.

Absolutely no intent or direction at all.

It's quite funny to watch really.

I dont think they were that good last season either, but the defenders they were up against were of lower quality so even if you didnt score directly they didnt clear properly and you got a 2nd chance which often led to a goal so it felt like they were working.

this season most teams seem to have bought in aload of rugby players to play in defence, and yeah its harder to break through them, and they can clear most attempts and dont really panic.

some of its bad luck too, there was that chance I think Delap had a few games back which went right to him, unmarked, he hits it clean, problem was he was a yard the other side of the goal, so it went straight out for a goal kick, a yard the other way its a goal, but then of course he wouldnt have met the ball coming in as well.

He wasn't very popular at his previous club tbf.

I don't know why we've stopped Davis taking certain set pieces he's the best at it.
