Congrats to TNS, 1st "Welsh side (hmm) to win in the group stages of a European competition.
Here is a thing though, TNS, Larne, Shamrock, they'd struggle in the National Conference league yet get to play European football every season. Times that by 20 of clubs that are of the same sort of quality in Europe does beggar are UEFA missing a big trick here.
Surely UEFA in the interests of making as much money as possible as per their standards, shouldn't they be setting up these three European competitions to have the best clubs possible.
A Tier 1 of clubs - Champions league, Tier 2 - Europa League, Tier 3 - Conference league.
So rather than have all these frankly very poor in standard clubs from tiny footballing nations they should have more from the major leagues.
So for England, top 5 from Premier league go to Champions league, next 5 (6-10) go into Europa League, and next 5 (11-15) go into Europa league. Same for Germany, Italy, Spain etc.
Wouldn't that be a nice target to finish 15th and get European football next season?
Lot bigger clubs in the competition, bigger crowds, more money for UEFA etc.

sensible idea, but UEFA (& FIFA) is all about keeping the current corrupt officials in charge. Lichtenstein & the Faroe Isles have the same voting power as Germany, so the organisation has become all about pleasing the smaller nations, so that the regime gets to retain power.

Where would you draw the line? Celtic and Rangers, most of the Eredivise, the top clubs of the Belgium Pro League and most of the Portuguese top league will all be yo-yo clubs between the Premier League and The Championship as it stands. Having only the best teams qualify for Europe would be like denying clubs in League Two and below entry into the FA CUP. It would also be a stealth European Super League. A no from me.

Great earner for Shamrock Rovers. They got €400,000 for a nights work compared to €450,000 from their last four Premier league title wins. Money is ridiculously small in the League of Ireland ( and Irish League ).

I’m guessing the Welsh league is worse still re. Monies. I’ve mentioned it before but I really think some of the English league lower level teams are missing out on a money making trick here. Ok I know Cardiff and Swansea and possibly Wrexham would benefit being in the premier league hugely but if they did start free fall along with the other lower teams .. who is that now just Newport ? They’d make so much more money in the Welsh making europa or conference groups now.
