Cheers! I did think Luton might catch some out given that they played at Wembley a few times in the '80s, but that was for two League Cup finals and one Full Members' Cup final — in 87/88, they recorded one of their best league finishes (9th), reached the semis of the FA Cup, won the League Cup and were runners-up in the Simod Cup. Luton did get to the FA Cup final in 1959, losing to Forest. I think there was another team that made the semis in '59 that was tinpot enough to issue a commemorative kit to mark the fiftieth anniversary of such a monentous achievement... But I digress. You did make me have another look to check if Notts County had actually won the Cup! But they did, albeit back in 1894 (they were a Second Division team at the time).

Luton beaten in the 1959 Final by Nottingham Forest. Team: Baynham, McNally, Hawkes, Groves, Owen, Pacey, Bingham, Brown, Morton Cummings, Gregory. All from memory, I swear before the Great God Ham. And no, I never supported Luton. I sat next to a friend in school who was a fanatical Luton fan, and he kept going through this team.

Yes i was sure Luton had got to the FA Cup final. They beat Town 5-2 at Portman road in the 5th round & yes fortunately beat the Budgies in the semi final after a replay. Elton John's uncle Roy Dwight scored Forest's first goal before later breaking his leg.

Their sole appearance in the final remains their loss to WHU in 1975. In another timeline, we would have been there at Wembley to defeat them and complete the Double...

Aargh - you've reminded me about Clive f***ing Thomas again. Luckily, that was about the first FA Cup Final that I didn't watch on TV since 1966 as I had a school tennis match to play. I don't think I could have faced watching it.
