'In return, Sun will receive a banana and a roll of duct tape, as well as a certificate of authenticity and instructions on how to install the work – including how to replace the banana, should they want to.'
"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."
Where do you start with this? This is really quite staggering. And to think there wasn't one person that was willing to pay this amount but there would have been others too wanting to pay less but still well over what a normal person would deem excessive.
I might have found the work of interest if I saw it in a gallery but to want to own that particular piece is absurd. It's not just the banana that has to be replaced but the duct tape too. And then the board too presumably needs to have the glue removed and cleaned... So at what point is the work no longer original?

Why should the super rich pay more tax when they can buy this? on 10:22 - Nov 21 by leitrimblue
'The banana was reportedly purchased gor 35 cents earlier that day'. A rich fool and his money are easily parted.
The thing is Banksy if you tax the super rich they will leave the country and there will be no one left to pay $5 million for a 35 Cent banana.
Instead of increasing tax for the super rich, maybe HRMC should hold a competition for their employers to produce the most pretentious or ridiculous works of art. Promote such art work heavily on social media and hope some rich fool buys it. Profits go to the Treasury.

A bit like Trigger with his broom heads and handles.
