Apparently the ball was played by a defender.

Can only assume the linesman didn’t think it took another touch. He was on from the initial ball.

I was flagged offside earlier in the season in similar situation and told that if it’s an accidental touch by the defender then it’s counted as if it’s a forward pass by the attacking team and you’re offside, even if the defender is trying to prevent a pass and gets a touch on it and that it’s only a very deliberate attempt to play the ball, eg a backpass, where the forward is onside.

Was only half watching the ball across when Taylor was played in so no idea if it was deliberate or just a deflection. Also no idea if the ref that told me that earlier in the season was correct or not but he was an excellent ref and said the rule came in in the summer.

I haven't seen it. Only relying on Brenner said on radio commentary and he said it was played by a defender.

I assumed so too at first, just because it was such a shocking call! Seemed to be an Ali touch though. About time we have one go our way

Just found it on X.

None of their touched it. Lino looking at Ali and the ball ran past him so he presumably had no idea if Taylor was off or not.

He was about 2-3 yards off by the looks of it lol.

That’s our one decision for the season then.

There are refs whose decision is final no matter what.

"Are you questioning my decision 'cos that's dissent. Do you want me to book you for dissent?"

"No ref"

"Play on"

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Was it deliberately played by the defender and then was Al Hamadi's touch intentional and significant? What do the rules say about each?

The only sure thing is that, had there been VAR we would probably still be waiting for them to decide it now.
