Referees - Given we have recent comparable experience 19:36 - Feb 22 with 1319 viewskizaitfc

Can anyone say the refereeing has improved.

For me it has gotten worse, and I am not blaming it for our current position. I have laughed at many decisions that have wrongly gone out way (penalty vs Chelsea for example).

The problem in the prem is the referees seems so much more arrogant despite making awful decisions.

Do other sport have this issue with refereeing or is it just football?

It's just football (mainly because it's no longer football but business).

For me, four things are wrong with it:

1. VAR is killing the game. Creates confusion and referees are no longer reffing the game. Tries to make football objective when it's mostly a game of subjective chaos.

2. Refs as a result are losing their 'feel' of games. Common sense and ref skill replaced by processes like an HR dept taking over a company.

3. Players cheating.

4. Refs have become mini players - huge egos in some!!

I remmeber people saying, in the League One days, how poor the refereeing was. I cannot see the difference to this season myself.

I think there's a fine line between being a confident assertive referee and arrogance. I think if you're confident and assertive but make poor decisions, you probably look arrogant.

Maybe a case for today's though as he seemed so hell bent on making a 'thing' of everything. It always seems a cheap criticism and it's a bit cliche but it was a little bit 'all about me'.

Every 50/50 seemed to be a foul one way or another (a lot of refs have seemingly forgotten you can play on), he set the tone early on with a nothing 'foul' in the first few minutes, and didn't let the game flow at all, and while we didn't deserve a win he broke up our good attacking spells second half with general fussiness.

Point 3, for me is the greatest killjoy. Diving, feigning injury, cynical time wasting, it's all disgraceful and not remotely 'sport' or 'sporting'. I don't understand why it's being tolerated to the level it is.

I'd be ashamed to call myself a player if I got up to those shenanigans.

The problem is that refereeing is really difficult and the basic tenant hasn’t changed since 1890. One bloke has to run around, keep up with elite athletes, get into the perfect position to view something happening in a blink of an eye, interpret it, make a decision based on an insanely badly written book of laws, then move onto the next action.

I actually think that the problem is just that fans/clubs/media no longer accept that reality and want absolutes when such has never been possible.

But then I'm an old b....

See also the music industry. The corporate giants feed the population autotuned, soulless banality and tell them that it's the pinnacle of musical talent.

The masses should be forced to listen to classic albums like Fleetwood Mac Rumours, etc to understand how rawness and 'rough around the edges' imperfection makes for better entertainment.

Actually, the masses are to blame. I hate the masses.....

This is where the media have a responsibility that they're not fulfilling, maybe never have but it's more important now. Rarely do you see a pundit sit on the fence (which is perceived as a bad thing) or say 'that could have gone either way'.

The referee did his job very well today, along with Michael Salisbury , they ensured a Wolves victory and Town defeat, the closed shop, or cartel, that is the Premier League has taken one step closer to being preserved. For many years they have wanted no relegation from it, so the three promoted clubs going straight back down is the next best thing.

Can’t agree with that. He was poor for both . This is a nailed on pen that he didn’t give or var get involved. They are just inept for all teams

Said this after the game, it will only change if managers start calling out their own players, and maybe not even then.

Commentators have a a responsibility, pundits have a responsibility. Jamie O'Hara, to pick a Spurs supporting pundit/presenter, should be calling out Porro for his blatant disregard for the sport and attempt at cheating late in the game today, but he won't. No one seems to care as long as it goes in your favour, but it's a stain on the game. Delap had a good go at it today too, the game was riddled with stuff that we should be in uproar about.
