Had a bit of joy with Johnson wide right and Wolfie centre back Saturday, looked defensively sure and then we change it for today. Their players are better than ours - surely that means we try to limit the chances they have as opposed to thinking we can score one more than them regardless?

On Saturday you had Johnson as the RWB and we were in a deep, deep back five. I don’t see him as a CB in a three or a RWB in a five. He’s an out and out RB and today was horrrendous. | | | |

It was obvious within 10 minutes that Godfrey was at the races today and Son was going to run rings around him. McKenna should have seen that and even though its harsh subbed him off for Johnson before they even got their first and failing that immediately after they scored. Now losing Phillips and Cajuste for Wednesday and presently been 5 points behind Wolves and possibly 8 by the time we play Man U has probably ended any slim chance we had of staying up. | | | |

Yep, personnel not formation the problem today. Godfrey had a mare, Philogene was pap, and generally we didn’t take our chances. Besides that we were the better side for a lot of the game. |  | | |

To be fair, only Tuanzebe looks up to it on the right … Johnson has awful moments and good ones.
What I don’t get is we win at Tottenham playing 5 at the back I with Tuanzebe right centre and Johnson wide right wing back. w Tottenham haven’t changed the way they play at all.
It was similar formation for us versus Villa , albeit much deeper when down to 10,
Omari took his full back to the cleaners for our goal at Villa Park and looks most effective there both for us and for England u21 , think back to those goals last season cutting in ..
so why change it totally and give Godfrey a game who hadn’t looked up to it and not Wolfy who has , and shift Omari inside again.
Maybe it was to encourage Clarke after his good show in the cup and only getting a few mins at Villa park being a sub being subbed.
